View Full Version : Ian Singing Thread: I'm Back!

Since it was a tie, I guess I will have to just put my music up anyway and see what people think. All the songs will go into this thread from here on in. If you wish, requests are possible and encouraged as it gives me a challenge.

My first song back from hiatus due to Bronchitis is the classic Street Where You Live from My Fair Lady. Call me a hopeless romantic but this is a song that some of us can relate to and is absolutely wonderful to sing. My voice, though a bit scratchy in the recording because I tried new settings, is 90% recovered and I was itching to sing as I have not done so in half a month or so. Forgive the settings, I'll kick it back.

This song features the power of my voice as it is normally, which by prior recordings you never get to experience as I am crooning softly, lullabying or trying to hold back, and also have the power of the input turned way way down. I wanted a song to showcase my power at least once so forgive me for showboating. This link is a temporary version for now until I am fully healed.

Please feel free to comment.

A profound song that speaks of life and hope, as well as the idea that though we do not see eye to eye, we should find common ground...

The Circle of Life song in a similar style to Sir Elton John...yes he was knighted, no I'm not from the UK, yes he deserves to be called Sir. I do that for all the ones I love including Sir Sean Connery, Sir John Cleese, etc. lol

A song my mother made me learn and sing:

http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchandlisten/play/be8a5e4a0

It's a meaningful song from Mary Poppins about giving and how a person can make a big difference that doesn't have much more than 2 pennies to their name.

One for the people in the UK. Robbie Williams-Bodies.

I had one error in this and when I redo it I'll post the newer version for you all.

No one is saying a word, so I am guessing my choices are not pleasing. This one is a VERY different song than any other I have tried.

I love your singing & you have a wonderful voice. Have you ever thought of trying out for Americas Got Talent?

I love your singing & you have a wonderful voice. Have you ever thought of trying out for Americas Got Talent?

Funny you should ask that. No, I never did think to try that show. I DID try for American Idol and got shot down. When it began I was 28 and the show limit for age was 26 then, and as you can imagine I was unable to be a part of the try outs. When I was 34, I was at the Christopher West Pride in West Hollywood, there they had a booth that was being run by the people at American Idol, a kind of cheap way to find people for the show. I filled out my card with accurate information and got up to sing Your Song.

Well I was, and am still not, very fond of the original version of the song though I love Sir Elton a huge amount. I got to a portion where, bored, I changed it to the version in Moulin Rouge and had fun with it. One of the persons in charge of the booth was running the Inflatable Sumo ring, heard me and dove OUT of the ring to come over and grab the clipboard from the man running the booth. I watched, rather bemused, as he shook his head at her as she dashed up.

Turned out, yes they wanted me, but my age made it impossible as hell.

I may, when I get more practice under my belt, try out for America's Got Talent...see if I can't give them a thrill like Susan Boyle did in the UK.

For now, here's my latest..another try at Country Western music.

Oh yes, and I meant to ask, is anyone getting annoying feedback or issues with the music sounding loaded with echoes and like I am far away from the mic? I need to know, because at least one person is suffering this issue and I cannot explain as to why. I've listened to the recordings on 6 different computers and none are the same but none make the same problems my friend is having.

If you can perhaps recommend a solution, I'd appreciate it.

I love Monty Python.

That was enjoyable, the way you seemed to slip into an accent about halfway through, guess it was infectious LOL

I was doing an accent all the way through, but not like Eric Idle. I copied the guy from Spam-A-Lot. That way I got in more singing time instead of just speaking, and at the end I added some of Eric's patter from the different recordings.

Ok, for Halloween I did something special. Hope you all like it and understand this is the LAST time the crummy mic is being used. A New one is on the way from Amazon and should arrive on the 1st.

Not bad at all, the really distracting part was the web cam seemed to be out of time with the music. I gave up and closed my eyes and just listened. Good job.

Shame about the video not tying in perfectly, with the vocals, but heh, what the heck, it actually added to the enjoyment of the song. I mean.....this is.....spooksville....and Transylvania...''and all that jazz.'' It ain't gonna be ''normal''.....LOL!!

Very good Ian.

Hopefully the video here works well enough. This is a redux with the new mic of Long and Winding Road. If there is any roughness, Canticle, it will because I am overwrought by the words.

Perfect Ian. It was Ian singing it, not Ian wanting to capture the beauty of Paul McCartney's rendition. Your own emotions and singing abilities, gave it that ''edge,'' which I had mentioned. It was beautiful and I am glad it made me cry.

Hugsya...

Two very difficult songs to sing Ian. Some think that is is easy to sing...if one has any kind of a good voice. You are have had expert tuition and yet youare now experincing some difficulties. All is good. From each song sung, we learn a little more. I just wish, that I had your abilities, where breathing, pausing etc were concerned. Keep at it....this is an interesting an enjoyable task, which you have undertaken to do.

I listened to a couple of your songs and I'm afraid you sounded flat to me. Your voice is strong enough, just not enough inflexion or emotion conveyed in it. At time it sounded as though you were singing from the phone directory.

None of this really matters if you just sing as a hobby or simply because you enjoy it. By all means carry on as you are. However if you hope to sing professionally, or have anyone pay to hear you sing, then I would suggest you need singing lessons from a professional voice coach to develop your voice.

As an example of what I'm saying try listening to this song, sung in this instance by Ronan Keating, called 'If Tomorrow Never Comes'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6lw1suaZpo

I know receiving criticism can be difficult, but it is meant constructively and you did put your songs out there for comment. There were bound to be a few poor reviews along with the adulation.

Best wishes, and good luck. :)
