The story behind Einstein's riddle is that Albert Einstein created it in the late 1800s, and claimed that 98% of the world population couldn't solve it. I am not sure of the true origin, but I have seen this one floating around the internet, and it is a good brain exercise.... and there is a reason why only 2% get it right
Here it is:
- In a street there are five houses, painted five different colors.
- In each house lives a person of different nationality.
- These five homeowners each drink a different kind of beverage, smoke different brand of cigar and keep a different pet.
Einstein's riddle is: Who owns the fish?
Necessary clues:
1. The British man lives in a red house.
2. The Swedish man keeps dogs as pets.
3. The Danish man drinks tea.
4. The Green house is next to, and on the left of the White house.
5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.
6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.
8. The man living in the center house drinks milk.
9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
13. The German smokes Prince.
14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
15. The Blends smoker lives next to the one who drinks water

Well I gues this is where my lack of education shows it's ugly head... Hell I tried and even wrote stuff (the known facts) down and tried to move them around and link them togather. I usually pride my self at being a good problem solver. But I must admit.... I give !!! :)

lol the key to the person is the way we understand it....... thats why only 2% of the world get it right....... many more can solve it... but only 2% get it right....
lil hint, its actually a personality puzzle in the form of a logical puzzle

LDD- If it is a personality test what is it testing about your personality? Persistance? Willingness to devote time to a silly test? lol I looked up the test when I was done to see if I got it right and it was the same answers I got.

its testing nothing...... a test is something in order to indicate something to other people........
the response you give, will tell you about you......
98% of people will answer 1) the german ( the logical answer ) or 2) nobody owns the fish ( personal viewpoint ).
the 2% that are correct, actually have a answer that they learn from the puzzle... and that is ownership is a human only trait and understanding.....
the puzzle works by setting out ownership of the house, possession of the smokes and keeping of the animals.....
ownership is a legal understanding to give us control over something...... and a human only trait..... and we actually own nothing.... we have the illusion of control by power of ownership in a legal term...... yet, ever tried to exert that control or authority over a flood, a earthquake, a tornado ??????
the best relationships are the ones where a person has a partner, not a possession and not something they own .......
as the old saying goes, if you so love something, set it free, if it comes back, hold and love it, if it doesn't, you never could.......

Maybe I'm thinking of something else... ;)

I think you're thinking of surrealism placed in a blender with chaos theory, inverted by string theory. If only every day were Thursday, we'd be eating submarine sandwiches. Or is it only on jeep-jeep, a holy day on planet Xerog, we eat subs? Awe heck, let's just call for Calvin Ball!!!! I'm putting on my mask now. Void dons the Nixon mask.

No, it's just a logic puzzle, if a fun one. If you consider logic puzzles to be personality puzzles or tests, then I guess it might be one of those too.

Annika, I think the personality part comes in when you realize no one "owns" the fish.

Well I chose the Coffee drinker because I felt that was the only person that would have fish. Being too nervous from caffeine he would want a pet that wouldn't cause him more stress. Fish are soooo calming.
