Hello all,
We've been members here for a bit, and met a few very fun, respectful and pleasant people, but I have an issue with a member here (orallybi4cpl) who has seen fit to copy a photo from our profile and place it in his own profile photos. I've written him, at first telling him I don't appreciate using it without permission...no response. I wrote again demanding he remove it...no response. However, I do know he's been online after both of these letters.
Do any of you thoughtful, HONEST, respectful people have any ideas what might be done to get through to him? (I have other names I'd like to call this "person", but out of respect I'm not going to do so!)

You can't force folks to do the right thing. Shaming him into removing it probably won't help.
Photo-lifting happens everywhere.
Only way to truly prevent it is not to post photos and only send to those people that you absolutely trust.
Consider it a lesson learned.

Unless I'm just missing it totally, I think it's already been removed. However, as BHS said, putting photos out on the net is a risk, more so on a site like this. Only share what you are comfortable sharing and if someone borrows again without asking *which I think was more your problem than the fact he was using it period*, do the same thing, ask them to remove it. If they refuse you can always mail Drew and explain the situation.

I had the same problem with the mentioned member. I notified the webmaster, wrote to the fraudulent poster and posted to the forum about the situation.
The fraudster wrote back a smart ass reply and I believe he was suspended from the site for a while. Looks like he is up to his same unexplainable behavior. Maybe he just wishes he looked like you and I.
Because of him I pulled my profile and pictures, and have yet to put them back up.

How do you figure? If you can't force people to behave in a civil way, why do we have governments?

If indeed binectar is telling the truth about this (I don't see the photo myself, so I'm not taking sides) than what you are saying here is what I would call "blaming the victim." To not only take someone's photo but place it on your own profile is incredibly dishonest and sleazy. I can't imagine shrugging off such depraved behavior as something that "happens everywhere."

I removed my photo from our site, on the other persons site it is the next to last photo...indeed, my wife took that photo and recognized it immediately!

I mailed Drew a couple of days ago. Haven't heard back yet.

People ask me why I don't put photos in my profile (some in fact get rather snippy about it). This is the biggest reason...when you put a photo out there, you surrender control of it. You *know* about this person putting your photo in his profile *on this site*. You have no idea of the other profiles on other sites on which he's put your photo.

Atiq-
Government? LOL! Relax, this is the internet. Not exactly worth the National Guards attention. It's a bizarre outlook to even mention the government.
Blaming the victim? Hardly. Just pointing out where the OP went wrong by leaving something out where the animals can get it.
I never said I thought the thiefs behavior was boy scout worthy.
It does happen everywhere and it's unlike any of us are going to change the moral shortcomings of others.
Protecting ourselves from the start makes more sense.

Yes...I'm very grateful that I never put our faces out there for public viewing! I will have to reconsider having photos here...and anywhere else for that matter! Thank you all for your responses!

My point is that government exists primarily to restrain people from robbing, cheating and murdering others at will. This is, to use your language, forcing people to do the right thing.

True. Especially considering that the worst thing Drew could do to this sleazeball is terminate his account, and then he could just re-register under a new name like all the trolls do.
No, I think what we need here is a vigilante hacker. Someone who can trace him to his real identity, access his bank account and personal e-mail, spend all his money on guns and ammunition, and then write a threatening e-mail from him to Homeland Security.

Dang! ........... remind me not to get on your bad side, Atiq!
Can you actually do things like that?
I can't....my technology came to a screeching halt, in about 1969!
Anyway, I think that a pretty dastardly thing to do...steal a photo and post it for your own.

Sorry that happened to you.
One thing that you may want to research is "watermarking" your photo. A watermark is a faint word over the image. It might be your user name. If you have adobe photoshop, you may use it. You may google to find out more about watermarking.
http://cameras.about.com/od/photoeditingtips/a/How-To-Watermark-Your-Photos.htm
It won't completely stop them if they have Photoshop as well but it will make it irritatingly difficult. Therefore, hopefully making it not worth their while.

I actually knew about that, having used it professionally in the past...I just never thought of it here in this forum!

Appealing to any sense of decency he might have, hasn't worked, I would suggest you do as you have already, report the matter to Drew. State it is a breach of your wife's copyright in the photo, and that you want it removed immediately from his profile on this site. He may be using it on other sites that you are unaware of though.
Drew may well force him to take down the offending photograph, on pain of being suspended or banned from the site. I would certainly try that avenue first.
You stated you have taken the photo down from your own site so it has obviously had an effect on you, but people on here might well take copies of your photos and store them or display them anywhere. There is not a lot one can do to protect oneself from such unscrupulous behaviour, except not post revealing photos at all, but only share them with those you have befriended and trust.
Good luck, I hope you achieve the result you want.

Very sorry this happened. It is a very shameful thing to who did it. Posting pics involves always the risk they being stolen and the decision is a balance between taking the risk and the benefit of communicating. Personally I prefer to show pics rather than not to show and I must recognize a certain exhibitionism here, why not. But don't show face, it is awful to have these headless body pics of myself but it is safer.

Sorry, this is one of those prime examples of two wrongs making it more wrong..
Anonymous (the hacking organization) has been doing this over the Assange (WikiLeaks) stuff and now they have threatened the Westboro Baptist Church with digital attack along the lines you have described...
This is still criminal.. Not a good idea... What next, you piss of some script kiddie and they bury your ID and bank accounts?
While I cheer the efforts, almost by any means to get the WBT to shut the fuck up and die, they have to be legal or we advocate anarchy and chaos.. and we certainly have more than enough now..
Cheers,
Liz

Sorry this had happened to u. There are some real jerks out there. If this did indeed happen the the site owner should have investigated ur complaint and if found to be true that person should have been banned. Yes , we surrender our pics for other members to view ONLY and not to be extracted and do what they want with them.

Ahhh, you've encountered one of our resident trolls. Contact Drew and let him know what the troll did, and ask Him to contact said Idjet. Sorry that happened to ya'll, Sweetie.

In my personal opinion, he should have stolen the BW photo 6. It is so stunningly beautiful.
No, I did not steal it. But, I did admire it.

Put your username in bright letters through the middle of any pics you upload. Less people will try to lift them. :)

"Anonymous (the hacking organization)" They are not just hackers. They are in fact from all walks of life. They could be me, you, him, her or none of us, all of us. And they have all variety of professions. Also know that some are really a lot more than mere 'script kiddies'. As far as hacking goes, accessing a Linux server can be really difficult, especially if the administrator is half competent. Linux uses a really tight method of permission based checks.
In Linux the root user controls the system, i.e. they own all data and in *nix (Linux & Unix) everything is data. To access data you need a user account, if you can get root, you got the system. But getting root's user account can prove tricky. Brute password attempts usually won't work because *nix type of folks are normally versed about "root is God, do not surrender God for any reason", and root passwords/phrases are normally made difficult. Social engineering might work. But that usually requires infiltration on a face to face level. Ah, I ramble.
The point is Anonymous is everywhere & nowhere, nobody and everybody. People are fed up with the System, when it breaks and doesn't actually help. Of course, the system has been flawed all along, it has always been about a song remaining the same. "Rich get richer, poor get poorer or die."
I hear your retort coming, "everyone has equal opportunity." And I disagree. We can agree to disagree on that, suits me fine. But I'll just ask you to look around before suggesting equality is "Off The Shelf". It isn't.
" have to be legal or we advocate anarchy and chaos.. and we certainly have more than enough now.."
What, Belgium without government for over a year and Egypt, Libya not enough? So far it seems to be working out alright. But yet I still ponder Socrates' wisdom. And I still disagree with his final solution.

I am not in favor of chaos.
I am in favor of equality of opportunity to participate in all social endevors.
We, definitely do not have that here.
While, the freedome to participate elsewhere at the expense of having chaos is expanding, it seems to be contracting here, mostly because we complain rather than vote.
So, next time it is time to vote, take the "kick me sign" off your ass and actual vote.
