When-did-you-choose-to-be-straight (http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff-nation/assignments/share-your-news-and-views/8910840/When-did-you-choose-to-be-straight)

this is written by a teen in a NZ site... and its a very open and honest insight into what they are thinking and feeling, where as for older people our viewpoints can be very different yet very similar...... ( a teen is generally up to 20 years legally, tho a young adult is classed as 18-20... the writer is 19 and the age of consent in NZ is 16 )

she asks a interesting question... when did a person choose to ID as a sexuality instead of letting people assume what our sexuality is...... and for a country like NZ that is on the cutting edge of human rights.. the idea that a person has to come out as LGBT but not heterosexual, is not as true as it may have been once...... the idea that a person comes out as a heterosexual, is a reality, specially for LGBT allies that find that they are coming out as well and exploring what makes them a heterosexual and not LGBT.....

much of the threads in this site are about blaming society and making excuses but society is changing and has been for a while... so its getting to the point that unless people stop living in the dark ages or the closet, they will never realise that society has become very progressive and open minded.... and so the question of when do you choose to be straight and come out of the * closet * as a straight person, is very relevant to the younger generations........

almost makes me want to be a teenager for a few years, just to see how different it is for them compared to how I grew up in the 70 / 80s

LOL
In stark contrast I use "When did I choose to be straight" as my foremost weapon with the most anti homosexual conservative friends/coworkers.
I begin to premise that gays choose to be gay and therefore as a premise to discriminate against gays...
LOL
...
are you ready?
...
I both ask and point out that there was a point in time that we (note 1) 'chose' to be straight; thus cementing/giving credence to- anti gay prejudice (cleverly weaving an opposite view by asking the question) as a legitimately prejudicial CHOICE.
The typical straight man of course never really 'chose' to be straight, thus is disturbed by the very question "WHEN did you chose" (to be straight)?
The ultimate/mandatory logic of 'If I didn't "choose" to be straight'... permeates a question in the mind...
...
I'm an evil bastard sometimes... especially to folks 'way on the downside of humanity'...
...
This question tunnels its very way through (sexual preference) prejudice.

Best wishes to all,
And good luck during these hard times...
sincerely,
Blue

Note 1 (I am perceived at the surface to be a big man, a large conservative Republican straight man [mostly true, though I'm bi])
