Arrrrgggghhhhh!!!! BAD memories...STOP!!!

Any of the kids musical shows, especially when played repeatedly and infiltrating into my dreams first thing in the morning!!!!
I wince at some of the telletubbies (dah da dahhh, dah da dahhh) and seriously wanted to turf that video out a window.
OK... I love my son...but ugh...every morning for a year!!????

Note: I read the posts above...and now I have those themes dancing through my head!!!!!!!

The worst was, "Sunshine and lollipops....." I can't remember the rest and I am glad...pleeeeeeeeese don't remind me!

This thread should have a warning: " Do not read if you currently do not have a song stuck in your head. Reading this will get you one."

I'm now playing the radio at full volume to avoid getting "achy breaky heart" in my head. That song NEVER leaves you. Ugh.

... uh well... me being a deafie ( someone who doesn't hear ), songs don't usually creep into my conciousness unbidden... Naw theres worse things that can get stuck in your head... like say phantom sounds. Think of it like a tree making a WOOSHING WHISHING nosise, except you're on the inside looking out thru a window where you really don't "hear" the wind. I esp hate glancing at my air condittioner and imagining its making this horrible loud airplane taking off noise that mysteriously disappears when I look away from it. ( grapeseeds *wink* work very well against phantoms; esp. the phatom limb syndrome faced by amputees ) .

I do so very much enjoy having IMAGES stuck in my mind...esp hawt n sexy ones, you know the kind that make you squirm and make you feel like ya need intimate contact really soon before the onset of blueballs...

Any of the kids musical shows, especially when played repeatedly

Like EVITA ! ( Antonio Banderas & Madonna )
[Che:]
High flying, adored
So young, the instant queen
A rich beautiful thing, of all the talents
A cross between a fantasy of the bedroom and a saint
You were just a backstreet girl
Hustling and fighting, scratching and biting

High flying, adored
Did you believe in your wildest moments
All this would be yours
That you'd become the lady of them all?

Were there stars in your eyes
When you crawled in at night
From the bars, from the sidewalks
From the gutter theatrical
Don't look down, it's a long, long way to fall

High flying, adored
What happens now, where do you go from here?
For someone on top of the world
The view is not exactly clear
A shame you did it all at twenty-six
There are no mysteries now
Nothing can thrill you, noone fulfill you

High flying, adored
I hope you come to terms with boredom
So famous so easily, so soon
It's not the wisest thing to be

You won't care if they love you
It's been done before
You'll despair if they hate you
You'll be drained of all energy
All the young who've made it would agree

[Eva:]
High flying, adored
That's good to hear but unimportant
My story's quite usual
Local girl makes good, weds famous man
I was stuck in the right place at the perfect time
Filled a gap, I was lucky
But one thing I'll say for me
Noone else can fill it like I can

I do get songs stuck in my head--they usually tend to be ones that really suck wind for some reason!!! :) What I hate worse though, is for good songs--I can only remember just a few lines--not the whole song---

OK..this is for all of you that read Huneypot's thread a few months ago with the comedy song, "Do You Take It Up the Ass?"....how long did we suffer with that song playing through our heads over and over!!!????!!!! And as soon as we would finally get it out of our memories, someone would come into chat laughing about that song and we would all start hearing it again and again...Not exactly a song you want to be caught singing as you do your daily chores!!! Second runner-up would have to be the "Dear Penis" song!! It appeared in the jokes thread and was quite popular for a while as well! LOL!!

Hugs,
Kate

I get snippets stuck in there...never the full song.

The worst recently have been "Food Glorious Food" from Ice Age II and from the RENT sound track I get bits of "Light My Candle"

I'm going to have to kill whoever mentioned the Song That Never Ends because it's currently battling the other two. You should HEAR the noise in my skull right now.

OH! I've got one almost as bad as Small World. Remember Barney?? Nuff said.

I'm gonna go crank some Wagner and get this out of my head :tong:

OK thanks to my cousin's voice mail message I have A whole new world stuck in my head....but its actually got some great lyrics...so Gleeky this is for you

I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?

I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride

A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming

A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
Now I'm in a whole new world with you

Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky

A whole new world
Don't you dare close your eyes
A hundred thousand things to see
Hold your breath - it gets better
I'm like a shooting star
I've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be

A whole new world
Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
Every moment red-letter
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you

A whole new world
That's where we'll be
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place
For you and me

I used to get in trouble for bitching that song, the revised version goes something like this.

I hate you, you hate me, we are a dysfunctional family, jump up, grab a gun, out the door, no more purple dinosour.

LOL! My favorite version of that was "I hate you, you hate me, let's hang Barney from a tree. With a knife in his back and a bullet in his head, now aren't you glad that Barney's dead?"

I know...I'm a sick, twisted lil chick. Muahahahaha!

I hate Barney and the Teletubbies just as much as the next parent/grandparent/guardian/child care provider. But am I the only one that despises The Wiggles? Sorry to you Aussies. I don't think they represent your region well. Any song by The Wiggles and it gets stuck there ALL DAY. Also, Elmo's Song. For those of you who don't have tots, here's the whole song:

This is the song
La la la la
Elmo's song.
La la la la,
La la la la,
Elmo's song.

La la la
La la la la, la
La la la
La la la la, la

He loves to sing,
La la la la,
Elmo's song.
La la la la,
La la la la,
Elmo's song.

He wrote the music.
He wrote the words.
That's Elmo's song.

This is the song,
La la la la
Big Bird's song.
La la la la,
La la la la,
Big Bird's song.

La la la
La la la la, la
La la la
La la la la, la

I love to sing,
La la la la,
Big Bird's song.
La la la la,
La la la la,
Big Bird's song.

I love the music.
I love the words.
That's Big Bird's song!

This is the song,
La la la la
Snuffy's song.
La la la la,
La la la la,
Snuffy's song.

La la la,
La la la la.
La la la la la.
La la la,
La la la la.
La la la la la.

I love to sing,
La la la la,
Snuffy's song.
La la la la,
La la la la,
Snuffy's song.

He wrote the music.
We wrote the words.
That's Snuffy's,
that's Big Birds
That's Elmo's song!

Seriously. And you can't help but memorize it upon first hearing it because it's so incredibly easy. My 4-year-old listens to/sings it constantly. I love him, but I want to throw the cd out the window and kill Elmo...

Its called "The Oldsmoble" (sp).... I cant remember where it came from!! I keep thinking it came from the movie "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" but my mom doesn't think so. (it has been years since we both last saw the movie)
Anyone here recongize the song?? Need to know where its from as its bugging me now :-) I swear, my mind starts singing it every time Im in the car.... thats why I think it came from CCBB cause it was about a car!! lol

I think when I think of songs, its just cause Im in a very happy mood :-) I am however, not crazy enough to sing in the rain!! hehe

I listen to music constantly whenever I'm on my computer (and I have very broad taste), so I'm pretty much guaranteed to get stuck in my head whatever was the last song that I heard when I stopped listening. It doesn't even need to have words or a consistent melody.

I haven't been able to find a remedy, so I do the next best thing that I can think of: flip through my library until I find something that I won't mind being driven crazy by for the next few hours.

The only remedy to stop songs from going on and on in your mind is just think of something else, read something else or start talking about something :-)

Theres truth to Shari Lewis's song....

"This is a song that doesn't end.... yes it goes on and on my friend......" hehe

I got mad at my cousin for making me think Winnie the Pooh theme song from Disneyland's ride!! :-) We went on it with our younger cousins... the ride stops for a moment and the song plays.... my cousin starts singing to herself "Winnie the Pooh......" and Im looking at her with this look cause now its in MY head!!
Yikes, stuck with me for days.

Death- Empty words

Ashes and promises share a bond
Through the winds of change
Words are blown away
When visions that should be
Are tattooed in your mind
The power to let go
Is sometimes hard to find

The answer cannot be found
In the writing of others
Or the words of a trained mind
In a precious world of memories
We find ourselves confined

Claws so razor sharp
Ripping at the spirit

Promises a potential to hurt
Is anything real?
When forever is to be until
Deep inside, in the world of empty words...
No escaping from those haunting
Empty words...

Do you ever feel it?
A craving that is so strong
To by thought rewind in order to find

Expectations that shined through the doubt
That soon would turn into the price
Of what a word will be worth
When tomorrow comes
To be and we are left
Standing on our own
And seeing what is real...

The answer cannot be found
In the writing of others
Or the words of a trained mind
In a precious world of memories
We find ourselves confined

Claws so razor sharp
Ripping at the spirit

Promises a potential to hurt
Is anything real?
When forever is to be until
Deep inside, in the world of empty words...

For all you Pagans out there, this is from the "Hair of the Frog" CD by Three Wierd Sisters. It's called "New Forest".

There's a light in the forest
When the moonbeams filter down
There's a mirror in the greenwood
When the dew is on the ground
Every branch and every blossom
Every root and every leaf
Drink the tears of the Goddess in the morning.

Well, the sun was her lover
When the twilight came around.
He said, "Lady, I'll protect you
'Til the world stops turning round."
And she danced in his brilliance
While the forest people slept,
And she whispered in his ear the word, "Remember."

And the owls sang her song
And the crickets sang along,
And the people were soothed in their sleep.
Where her feet touched the earth
Midnight orchids sprang from nothing,
And the forest grew thick with her dreams.

There came wars, there came cities,
Wonders terrible and strange,
But the light from the greenwood
Flickers down despite the change.
Every field every farm house,
Every tired city street
Knows the tears of the Goddess in the morning.

When the sun comes to kiss her
And she slips out of her bed,
They are young and old and ageless,
Sunset paints the city red.
Shall we dance in the twilight,
Watch the suburbs go to sleep,
And lift a glass to all the people who remember...

That the trains sing her song,
And the streetlights hum along,
And the people are soothed in their sleep.
Where her fingers touch the sky,
Shooting stars spark out of nowhere,
And she wraps the city tight in her dreams.

And the owls sang her song
And the crickets sang along,
And the people were soothed in their sleep.
Where her feet touched the earth
Midnight orchids sprang from nothing.....

The funny thing for me is that there is always music rattling around in my head. Mostly songs from the 30's and 40's, when they could write lyrics...witty lyrics, love songs that could express any situation you might find yourself in. I have arias in my head, I love opera and classic rock songs.
Some of the most frequent are:
Night and Day but anything that Sinatra or Ella sang
Nessum Dorma and anything Pavoratti sang including Italian songs
Moon Dance - I mean come on it's Van Morrison
and instumentals too...Trane's My Favorite Things, Horace Silver's Song for my Father, Bethoven's Fifth
Oh and fuck Barney but I do love Elmo!

ok folks - here is my revenge for two things:

1- someone else listing the song that never ends (I loved that one)

2- and everyone else listing all those other songs that are now stuck in my head!

so, without further ado....

Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry, be happy
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy now

Don't worry, be happy Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy Don't worry, be happy

Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't worry, be happy
The landlord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy

Don't worry, be happy, Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy, Don't worry, be happy

Ahhh, yes - the 80's :)

hey, i thought that cruel and unusual punishment was against the law!!-lol!
i agree w/arana and voltman-it's usually the crap commercial and/or song that you dislike that sticks in your head and torments you. (ok-my turn) remember the commercial, i think that it was for volvo. it was also a na, na song. something like-na, na, na...da, da, da.
barney, wiggles, and etc. all need to die. but, i like 'safety dance' and 'don't worry, be happy'(that one made my day)-thanx!

Gotta agree with SweetBlackAngel, soooo glad I don't have kids and have been spared the Barney/Teletubby/Veggie Tales experience. Although I did used to watch alot of Blues Clues, but only because the gym on base overseas only had access to one channel, and I worked out in the morning. (if you've ever been in the service, you understand what I mean, AFN)

My life has a soundtrack. I always have music on, in the car, at work, at home, at the gym. My iPod goes everywhere with me. And I'm a singer and a pianist. So I pick up music very quickly and usually only have to hear a few bars of something to be stuck. The worst for me is getting stuck on the same 8 bars of some song I can't really remember the words to.

But at any given moment, some song is floating around in my head. Best remedy I've found, if you can, when you get stuck, listen to the damn song. Or sing it or whatever. Get through it to get it out, then put on something different. lol

Here's today's. The entire album is highly recommended. It's sorta the bridge between Carcass's old grindcore sound and their later more technically polished works which were more in the vein of classic heavy metal.
Heartwork:
Works of art, painted black
Magniloquent, bleeding dark
Monotonous palate, murky spectrum, grimly unlimited
Food for thought, so prolific
In contrasting shades, forcely fed
Abstraction, so choking, so provocative

A canvas to paint, to degenerate
Dark reflections - degeneration
A canvas to paint, to denigrate
Dark reflections, of dark foul light

Profound, aesthetic beauty
Or shaded, sensory corruption
Perceptions, shattered, splintered, mirroring
In deft taints, diluted, tinted
Spelt out, in impaired colour
Denigrating, going to pains to paint - not a pretty picture

Works of heart bleeding dark
Black, magniloquent art
Monotonous palate, murky spectrum, grimly unlimited
Prolific food for thought
Contrasting, fed with force
Abstraction, so choking, so provocative

Bleeding works of art
Seething work so dark
Searing words from the heart

A lot of people call this Carcass's black album, I beg to differ. Heartwork is a profound statement about the fragility of the human condition. Plus Michael Amott plays licks and solos that scream taste and skill. I have the video if anyone wants it. Hear this song and try telling me the riffs aren't burned into your head. I dare you

1- someone else listing the song that never ends (I loved that one)

2- and everyone else listing all those other songs that are now stuck in my head!

so, without further ado....

Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry, be happy
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy now

Don't worry, be happy Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy Don't worry, be happy

Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't worry, be happy
The landlord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy

Don't worry, be happy, Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy, Don't worry, be happy

Ahhh, yes - the 80's :)

I had "Closing Time" by Semisonic stuck in my head all day on Friday. "I know who I want to take me home???" Write some lyrics that make sense!!! Good thing they were a one "hit" wonder. Getting drunk that same night definitely cleared my mind of that horrible tune!

I've had Crash Test Dummies "Mmm mmm mmm mmm" in my head ALL day. Maybe because it's so slow and the lyrics are pretty easy to pick up.

Make it stop.

While visiting Disney World, my husband got stuck on the " Small World " ride for about a half hour. Talk about torture!

This ones been floating through my head since my sister gave me the Demon Days album. Most of this is spoken by Dennis Hopper
Gorillaz-Fire Coming Out Of A Monkey's Head

Once upon a time at the foot of a great mountain,
there was a town where the people known as Happyfolk lived,
their very existence a mystery to the rest of the world,
obscured as it was by shit clouds.
Here they played out their peaceful lives,
innocent of the litany of excess and violence that was growing in the world below.
To live in harmony with the spirit of the mountain called Monkey was enough.
Then one day Strangefolk arrived in the town.
They came in camouflage, hidden behind dark glasses, but no one noticed them: they only saw shadows.
You see, without the Truth of the Eyes, the Happyfolk were blind.

Falling out of aeroplanes and hiding out in holes
Waiting for the sunset to come, people going home
Jump back from behind them and shoot them in the head
Now everybody dancing the dance of the dead,
the dance of the dead,
the dance of the dead

In time, Strangefolk found their way into the high reaches of the mountain,
and it was there that they found the caves of unimaginable Sincerity and Beauty.
By chance, they stumbled upon the Place Where All Good Souls Come to Rest.
The Strangefolk, they coveted the jewels in these caves above all things,
and soon they began to mine the mountain, its rich seam fueling the chaos of their own world.
Meanwhile, down in the town, the Happyfolk slept restlessly,
their dreams invaded by shadowy figures digging away at their souls.
Every day, people would wake and stare at the mountain.
Why was it bringing darkness into their lives?
And as the Strangefolk mined deeper and deeper into the mountain,
holes began to appear, bringing with them a cold and bitter wind that chilled the very soul of them up.
For the first time, the Happyfolk felt fearful for they knew that soon the Monkey would soon stir from its deep sleep.
And then came a sound. Distant first, it grew into castrophany so immense it could be heard far away in space.
There were no screams. There was no time.
The mountain called Monkey had spoken.
There was only fire.
And then, nothing.

O little town in U.S.A, your time has come to see
There's nothing you believe you want
But where were you when it all came down on me?
Did you call me now?

gosh, folks, y'll are describing a typical daily soundtrack for me!! crash test dummies, elton john, e.l.o., bee gees, little richard, johnny horton, beatles, johnny cash, ray stevens, emerson lake and palmer, robin trower, april wine, you kno, songs by the groups we grew up with.. anyways, i have found that by having to wear ear muff type hearing protection all day long due to the nature of the noise i'm around, my mind supplies it's own diversion by coming up with a varied sound track while i work thru various technical tasks....dunno if this is a hazard to my sanity or if i'm just plain losing it, or even if i should be admitting this publicly  since many will think i've fliipin lost it!

but, yeah, to answer the question, all the above!
