I just watched Jack Van Impe(did i get it right?)
I'm sorry,I've been a good soul even if I've messed up once in awhile but some people just drive me around the bend. When are we going to stop feeling guilty and these bloodsuckers stop taking advantage of the people who can't say I'm sorry for those they let down? When was the last time(since the carpenter,if he was?) that these people didn't ask for money to save your soul?????
I want some one here to tell me I should send my money to these(tax free) people.I've seen women in their sixties in Ontario die and give them their life savings(and their dead husbands money too)
Why do we live guilty when we are good people?

sorry,it just drives me insane

Honey that's one of the reasons I gave up Christianity and found my own relationship with the Divine. It's not the religeon that sucks. It's the people.
Religeon was created by Man and is therefor inherently flawed.

FAITH, on the other hand, was created by Divinity. As long as you keep your faith and your relationship with God/dess (or however you can mentally encompass an infinite being) nothing can destroy that.

Hope that makes sense.

I just watched Jack Van Impe(did i get it right?) That asshole and his wife have been making millions for years by telling people the end of the world (the rapture) is right around the corner. The funny thing is that the more he turns out to be wrong, that is, every day the end of the world doesn't come, the more money he makes.

Religious conservatives are a strange mix of the gullible and the greedy.

I have found a really incredible christian preacher--Gregory Boyd--he was being interviewed on Charlie Rose's PBS program the other night--he is the preacher that had been featured in a recent New York Times article that I had put up a thread on about a month ago now---

In a series of recent sermons--Rev. Boyd addressed the issue of the connection between "christianity" and a particular political party here in America--he argued that the linkage of these is not in the best interest of that party, the nation or the Christian faith---I will try to find a link that provides more info on Mr. Boyd--he also is the author of a number of books--his most recent work that I am going to purchase Wednesday when I return to civilization to retrieve my furniture from storage--

His newest book is titled: "The Myth of A Christian Nation"

I also saw in recent days a report on CNN about this new vacine that has been developed for women that will protect them from the HPV virus--according to the pharma company that created the vacine--in order to be most effective, it must be administered to females in the age range of 9 to 11.

There was this woman being interviewed in the piece from James Dobson's Focus on the Family group out of Colorado Springs, Colo. She said that her organization is opposed to administering the drug at that age because it "sends the wrong message regarding sex."

She equated the administration of the drug at that age as a promotion of sexual activity beyond the bounds of marriage---and of course by their reckoning--that is wrong, wrong wrong---the only good sex is sex between a married man and woman for the purpose of procreation.

Never mind that this vacine can not only protect against HPV, but it more importantly can help prevent cervical cancer in females--

Something else I also recently saw-- on a piece that aired on CSPAN --- the governor of the state of Wisconsin was announcing a new initiative by that state to increase state funding for stem cell research. The governor talked about how only his state, California and a few others are actively supporting and providing some limited state funding for this valuable research and how even in his state--there was legislation drafted by a conservative member of the Wisconsin legistlature that would have stopped that. The governor and other law makers killed that attempt.

The governor also stated that in the US Congress--there is a move to draft federal legislation that would ban all stem cell research in America, public or private--of course George W. Bush-after six years in office-- used the first veto of his presidency to kill a bi-partisan, bi-cameral bill that would have expanded federal funding for this research and also would have opened up more stem cell lines for research use---had it not been vetoed by our lovely president.

These people say they love life and all--but of course that is only when human life is a fetus--like George Carlin used to say (and he stilll does from time to time in his stand up gigs)---"ohhh we love the fucking little fetus--the poor fucking fetus--but when you are born and get older its--FUUUUUUCCCKKKK YYYYOOOOUUUUU!!!!!!"

I am convinced these fundamentalist people are basically a bunch of fucking idiots-sorry for the "colorful metaphors" as they said in one of the Star Trek movies--but these people really bite my ass--LOL

Here is the NY Times article about Rev Boyd again: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/30/us/30pastor.html?ex=1156132800&en=b8fc5c129c5db06b&ei=5070

also the AOL version of the article: http://articles.news.aol.com/news/_a/disowning-conservative-politics-is/20060729195809990004

Here is the link to Amazon.com's page offering the book for sale: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0310267307/sr=1-1/qid=1156126780/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-0580631-9948042?ie=UTF8&s=books

As far as Jack Van Impe is concerned--he like Hal Edwards (I think that is his name) and Tim LaHay-(one of the authors of the "Left Behind" series) they are all just making big bucks off the fears of their readers, viewers and followers--they live off of fear and obviously have not much use of FDR's adminition that "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself!!!"

But then--we have a political regime that inhabits the White House, controls the US Congress and other branches of government that loves to play on fear----that is one of their most effective cards that put them in power and keeps them there--and as Drew observed--a bit a greed has been thrown into the mix as well---

As someone who has grown up in the Bible Belt...and who grew up in the city that begat Bob Jones University....I must say that long ago I realized that MY God...a loving and forgiving GOD, only put such fools as Jack Van Impe on earth to make me realize that there are varying extremes to anything. It is not my job to judge him, (although I do confess that I do LOL)....nor mock him....(I do that as well..you should see my impression of Ernest Angley or that hair sweep over king himself...Benny Hinn!!!!!!!...as I do any other Bible thumper that condemns an entire class of people)..but perhaps it is my job to try and forgive them....but I must confess..as a lowly human..I may forgive...but damn it.. I never forget!!! LOL!

Anyway..I realize that there are those that give up their life savings in the quest for that special place in heaven..but all I can do is live my life accordingly and hope that my actions speak louder than the dollar signs or the words. I just want to live and let live....is that so wrong????

To add further fuel to this fire..may I add the following for your perusal:

don't forget that parasite of dallasites, robert tilton, who , while under trial for tax evasion etc [ gee see a pattern here?] also had extortion and attempting to bribe a federal judge added to the charges....also, he'd been harassing my g/f [at the time], wanting money for prayers and blessing he supposedly did in her name, without her consent or request, and her oldest children went to the cops without our knowledge and filed a complaint.. funny about the same time the kids were filing a complaint, so were approx. 1500 other people throughout the southwest....i think he's finally out of prison.. dont really care tho.

oh, and was it billy graham who said [ @ 1987-88 i believe] " i need 13 million dollars within 60 days or god is going to send me home" ? sadly, he got it, too.

yeah, i gave up on that end of faith long ago, too, for much the same reasons others here did..

Of course....no fund raising letter would be complete without a dose of "THE TRUTH" as interpreted by Pat Robertson LOL!

The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians.
--Pat Robertson, fundraising letter, 1992

I'm not sure whether TV evangelists or so-called fundamentalists are worse, but either one of them qualifies as the worst thing to happen to Christianity in centuries. :(

I just wanted to "dull" the comments and gently guide them back to a more bi-sexual tone.
Humor seems to help in some situations....... ;)

HA! Nothing does it for me like a good round of mocking religion.

"So picture this: It's Friday night, you can't have sex, you can't jack off either, there's sand in your eyes, and probably in the crack of your ass, then a cartoon comes on from a country where people are getting laid and mocks your prophet. I think I'd be pretty pissed off too!"
