I had a reply to an earlier post, that i just cant shake. person will remane nameless, because this is not a bash on them, everyone is aloud to have their own opinions, and i repect that. this person said to have a symbol, represent bisexuality, is just a money grab on the comunity. thats not an excact quote thats the jist!
now to me, in my opinion this statement was ludicris. to me its like saying i dont belive in having a national anthem because its just a way to make money off the music community. or i dont belive in sports teams symbols, its just a way to sell to the sports comunity.
now my question to all of you is, even with this meterialistic world we live in do you belive we should have a symbol reprsenting our sexuality, country, fave sports team? or is it just a money grab? im sorry if this thread was started somewhere else, but ive been pretty much pacing around my house trying to see it from his point, and i just cant im going crazy here and need your imput. do i have to much pride, in my self? that i have to purchase a symbol? and desplay it proudly? what do you think?

There is no such thing as too much pride in yourself, your country, or anything you believe in. My Grandparents were from Scotland, and instilled a deep appreciation for the land they came from, and thier new home in Canada where they raised thier children and grandchildren. I can still get shivers when I hear O'Canada, or Scotland The Brave. I treasure that Pride.

Symbols are an important part of our society. Think McDonalds (the large M, Ronald McDonald), Disney (Mickey Mouse, Cinderellas Castle), MGM Studios (The Lion). Think about professional, amateur and high school sports teams (flags and mascots), Cities, Towns, Provinces and Countries (Flags, Coats or Arms, and usually a mascott or 2). Also think of Provincial and State Flowers, Trees, Birds and Animals. All symbols desplayed with Pride.

The Clans of Scotland have taratans, buckles, and flags. They are all displayed with Pride.

I did see that thread, and responded briefly there. I stand by that response. I have a Gay Pride sticker on my van and my car, there is a beautiful stained glass version in my living room window that a friend hand made and gave me as a house warming gift, I fly the Ontario flag in one corner of my back yard which changes to the Pride Flag during Toronto Gay Pride week, and there is a Canada Flag on the other corner that came from my Grandmother when our family cottage was sold. If you have too much Pride, then so do I !

I apologize for rambling here, but the that you were driven crazy with this question drove me crazy. I don't see his point at all.

It is important first and foremost to remember that everyone is entitled to their own point of view. This person has obviously had experiences in their life that lead them to this stand.

It is no less valid than your oppinion or mine.

There will always be something out there that we don't see eye to eye on. That's the wonderful thing about being individuals. We can choose our own viewpoint and yet be open minded enough to accept a viewpoint that is different.

My personal take on the person's post was that while Pride is a wonderful thing, perhaps they simply don't feel that flag-waving, stickers or marching is the way that person choses to show their pride.

Of course this is all just my :2cents:

thanks, i had some time to think, i appreciate your posts in both threads. i even can appreciate his point of view too. i understand everyone isnt into flagwaving. the whole " im here, im queer, get used to it!" just to name a reconisable slogan! and thats cool, but i just couldnt grasp the whole money grab on our comunity. i wish he put a little more in his reply, about why. you know. mabey he will, ill listen god you never know there may be more to his story of why he feels this way. and im sure there is.
i took it to heart , yes a little too much. but i fell like it was a dig to everyone who does fly the flag proudly. i dont think he was wrong, i just think, and hope that this peson does not look down on me, or anyone else who is proud to have something to fly, or show others who they are. im not going to go around telling everyone i meet, Im BI. but when i walk down the street and someone sees the patch on my backpack, or the shirt i have with the flag. and they come up to me to chat, or say "good for you i couldnt show it to the world right now, but you show alot of strenth for dooing so." that right there makes me proud of my comunity. thats just me, im fine with people doing what they think is right to show there pride. but dont tell me its just a money grab. that was the thing that i couldnt let go. im fine now, i hope he will reply again. because then mabey i can see his point, more in depth.
thanks again guys, i love this site, i love these fourums, i love the people. and that is what is important. the short time ive been here, has been good. thats why im here everyday. i know there is people who dont share my views, and i will fight to the end, so that they have the freedom to say them. but this one hit a soft spot. and i reacted. in my way. mabey this person will to. and i hope they do!

:bipride: :bipride: :bipride:...other than my TEXAS flag & old glory...I couldn't care less about symbols...especially sports teams...I'd almost as soon watch grass grow as to watch sorts on TV...
