Try TheFacebook.com. It's similar to MySpace, but the design is much less open-ended so that you don't have all kinds of God-knows what craziness. Pages also take far less time to load than with myspace. It isn't missing any of the info fields myspace has though, so you aren't pigeonholing yourself with it.

I thought with Facebook you had to be affiliated with a college or university? There's also Friendster and Ringo.

My personal favourite is www.okcupid.com. Its USP is that you can fill in your answers to thousands of user questions and then the site gives you automatic match and friendship percentages with every other user who has answered some of the same questions. Great for discarding people you're not going to get on with! The profile layout also has lots of potential (and inspiration) for saying lots of interesting things about yourself. There are message boards and they have just introduced a new chatroom with audio and webcam streaming facilities.

Sorry, didn't mean to do a sales pitch there *blush*

Thanks for the feedback guys. I found another one too I think. Its like MySpace for grown-ups.
They provides a personal page on the net for a user's photos, diary (blog), and individual profile of likes, dislikes, favorite bands, movies, and books.
You can search through all the members to find like-minded people who are between certain ages, are looking for relationships, and who live within a few miles of your zip code. See a photo you like? Leave a message for the person and ask to be made a "friend." If you're added, your photo will appear on this user's personal page as well. Users can add "comments" to your page but beware: they can also add HTML code to their comments that may change your own page's fonts, colors, even graphics.
You can "rank" users' photos as well. Users can also check their own rankings to see if other people think they are "hot, or not."

At this point (and I don't know of them having any plans to change in the future), Facebook is all college/uni or high school. They're expanding it with various different ways to network (job history, past schooling) in addition to current school, club, and class roster networking.

I use it, but really just for communicating with other club/class members and school friends. It's great for that, but way different from stuff like myspace and LiveJournal (personally I don't like myspace at all).

I like Yahoo's 360.
Just seems more private than Myspace.
And you have more control who can and who cant view certian parts of your page.

I love the forums on myspace (or I would if we could drive out some of the fuckwits) & I've met some cool people through them but my god I'm getting tired of getting spammed with friend requests. Anybody know of sites with that variety of forums without all the BS if that's even possible?

I'm on outfriend.com as well as myspace. Outfriend is ok, but it seems kinda small, not too many people on it yet.

Oh, and feel free to send a friend request along if anyone else is on either myspace or outfriend. :flag3:

It's something where some people put in as many quizzes as they possibly can, and for others, they avoid them as much as possible.

I see many people having many different styles of a LiveJournal. It's pretty much whatever you want to make of it.

OkCupid.com has dozens of quizzes, if that's your thing. LiveJournal is simply a blogging site which permits you to create polls (although I think you have to be a paid member).

As of a few weeks ago, facebook.com is now an anybody site. I was skeptical myself, but I've begun to hate myspace for a host of reasons so I decided to give it a try. Facebook is much less time-consuming and so far I have yet to encounter any bugs. I may switch over completely soon.

I've tried most of the other sites mentioned here. And I have to say OkCupid is probably my favorite. However, it does not work well with Firefox Mozilla so I don't use it often. That is my only complaint.

As far as LiveJournal, EasyJournal, and Xanga go, they are more leaning toward the blog side. Unless you enjoy writing a lot, it isn't really going to be your thing. I enjoy writing and they both got to be monotonous for me.

XPeeps is an ADULT myspace. It's geared toward pornstar wannabes. I gave that a try as well, but I wouldn't join that community unless you're not bothered by every living soul having naked pictures.

Hope that was helpful.
