I'm hoping to bottom for my first guy sometime soon, so I was wondering about preparation.
1) So you guys who have bottomed: do you enema/douche and if so what is your tool? I see many options in my local sex shop and online. I'll outline some of these below.
2) If you don't cleanse, or your partners haven't, do you actually have a problem with fecal matter? I read articles from gay sex expert doctors who say it's a big myth in the gay community that you need to enema/douche, and it causes way more harm than any small occasional benefits it provides. They say there's very little fecal matter if any in the anal cavity, and that it's really just all up in the colon, and very few combinations of cock and the bottom's anatomy allow penetration into the colon.
3) And I suppose you don't fuck if you're constipated, i.e. if you haven't been able to empty your bowels; wait until after you have?
4) Do you bottoms stick your soapy finger into your asshole in the shower to give it a good inside cleaning? I've read definitely not to use soap inside, but you can use a finger without soap to clean your inside in the shower if you feel you have to?
5) As for enema & douche tools, I already own an enema bag, but I am assuming that's not recommended? Or is it? I read an article quoting a big female porn star & director, Joanna Angel, who says that's all she uses. But @SexWithDrJess (O’Reilly) also says that it's not necessary to use an enema before anal sex at all. Others seem to agree, especially if you "feel" empty after a bowel movement. If you do come across some fecal residue during anal sex, O’Reilly insists it’s not a huge deal. “Often, it blends in with the lube (another reason to use lots of it, and I recommend Astroglide silicone),” she says. “Having said that, you know your body and your bowel movements best and some days will be better suited to backdoor play than others.”
6) Both ladies say diet is the most important thing, especially eating the day before and the day of some good solid food high in fiber, like smoothies with scoops of psyllium husks, prunes, popcorn, flaxseed oatmeal, rice, spinach, beans, yogurt, kiwis, and oranges, and drinking lots of water, 8-10 glasses of water a day, in the days leading up to anal sex. And avoid hot/spicy foods before bottoming, and if you’re sensitive to dairy products, avoid those too?
7) There's also the issue for enema bags on the height of the bag as it's emtying into your bowels. I read some people say hooking it on the showerhead, but others say it might be too high, causing too great of a pressure (you wanted it to drain into your bowels slowly), and 2 or 3 feet high is best?
8) So guys, what about using other tools? Does a douche bulb work well?
9) I read that the enema bag to do a full colonic is not necessary, and you just need a bulb to do a little cleaning in the rectum?
10) I guess even a local pharmacy would carry bulbs, and much cheaper than a sex shop; but should I really get it from a sex shop because it is made to prepare for anal sex specifically? I saw a few in my local sex shop:
11) One from CleanStream, US$30, has holes pointing sideways in the 5" nozzle (it says for better cleansing), and has a 300 mL capacity.
12) Another bulb from CleanStream, US$37, at 225 mL has three attachment nozzles, one smaller tapered one for easy insertion, one with the sideway holes, and the other ribbed.
13) Another generic just has the hole at the top part of the nozzle end.
14) How far do you push it in? I read a few centimetres, 1-2 inches?
15) As I mentioned above, I understand there’s actually not a lot of fecal matter that sits in the rectal canal or anus. Most of it is in the colon. Will a big cock reach the colon?
16) I suppose no matter what you use you need a water-based lubricant for the nozzle insertion?
17) What about your position for a bulb? Some people seem to say chest down with your butt up in the air? Other say in the squat position, like taking a poop in the woods?
18) And how long do you keep the water you squirt in using a bulb inside the anus? I've read to immediately let it discharge? Other say to keep it in for 2–3 minutes? That's unlike an enema bag where you try to keep the water inside you as long as possible, up to 15 minutes even? And jump up and down to get the water you squirted in using the bulb into every crevice?
19) I guess no matter what you use you just keep repeating until you just have clear water coming out, correct?
20) Some bulbs also have a one-way valve to prevent messy back flow. I guess that's necessary?
21) The sex shop also had toilet & shower enema attachment sets. Does anyone use that, and how does it work for them?
22) I guess the advantage of the toilet version instead of the shower version is that your discharge goes straight into the toilet bowl. But the disadvantage is that it takes some plumbing work to attach it?
23) Of course there's also the shower version. It has the advantage of being in the shower which decreases the amount of mess, and you're already there to wash yourself. But the disadvantage is you have to, I suppose, remove the cover of your drain or even dismantle the tub drain plunger, so the bigger pieces can go down the drain? It also has a disadvantage of again requiring some plumbing expertise to attach it?
24) The biggest warning about toilet and shower enema kits is that the water pressure can actually damage you?
25) And both the toilet and shower kits also have the problem of conspicuousness. You either attach it and detach it every time you use it and put it away in hiding, or you leave it attached for other household members or visitors to see?
26) I also read: The water removes not only fecal matter, but also healthy intestinal flora, which will reduce your ability to fight pathogens.
27) And "If the mucous membrane lining of your intestines has any small tears or scrapes, anal douching will greatly increase your risk of contracting HIV or an STI." And the douching can cause the tiny tears if you don't already have them. But I assume this risk is assuming your partner goes bareback?
Anyway, that's a lot of detailed questions. Any advice from those with experience is appreciated! Thank you!
