Why is everyone Bi depicted as "tattoed". Am I the only bi without a tattoo? Did I miss a meeting or something?

Lol. Getting tatted is a personal thing. I have 14 tats and I didn't get my first one until I was in my 40s so I don't necessarily connect being bisexual with being tattooed since I was bisexual way before I got my first tat. But getting a tattoo is a form of self-expression and, oddly, just as much of one as being bisexual is and for a lot of people, their tattoos tell a story about themselves and there's always a story about why they have a tattoo to begin with. I have one on my right wrist that I got in Maui during a cruise to Hawaii; it's a gecko and the artist told me about the spiritual connection to certain tattoos and that they gecko is a guide to let one's ancestors be able to find them in life. Good story, might have been true or not, but it went along with some things I had going on in my life that put me on that cruise ship so that I could get more in touch with myself - and the gecko tat was a part of getting in touch with myself.

You don't have to or need to get a tattoo "because you're bisexual" but it wouldn't surprise me that there are folks whose bisexuality has opened other ways to express themselves and they get a tattoo... or a few of them. Otherwise, it just might be a coincidence that someone is tattooed and bisexual.

Well said.

My tattoos for example, reflect on the lifestyle I've lived. Hotrods and motorcycles. Some get tattooed due to cultural beliefs or influence. Others like me, tattoo their life's passions and then theres the socially acceptable so people get tattoos for status

Mine reflect my inner spirit; my first tats were about strength, spirit, and music and being able to write and perform it and with many instruments. I have the big cats and dragons on me; I have the majestic wolf inked into my skin. I have an Egyptian-style tat that speaks to life's mysteries. All 14 of my tattoos defines who I am more than being bisexual does. Oh, and it hurts so good to get one! I very much remember my son telling me that once I get one, I'm gonna want to get another one and I didn't believe him... and I should have. I wanna get two more since the even number of tats that I have - 7 on the left, 7 on the right, speaks to balance and my Zodiac sign is Libra.

Bisexuality and tattoos are not linked as part of what bisexuality is.

Neither is m2m sex necisarly gay sex. Two gay men/two lesbian having sex is gay sex.

Dan
Why do you think tattoos and bisexuality are linked?

Myself, tats are a turn-off. I have none and never will. My Dad had some, and they got ugly with age. He wished he could get them removed later in life. So I'll avoid t hem like the plague.

I don't know if it has anything to do with sexual orientation so much as just a way to express oneself. I never though much about them until I got mine done. Now I notice every one I see and get noticed for mine quite often. I think it's a great conversation starter and way to connect with others!

Quick search (and possibly accurate): “36% of Americans between the age of 18 and 29 have at least one tattoo. 72% of adults with tattoos have tattoos that are usually hidden by clothing. More women regret their tattoos than men. In 2012, 21% of Americans had one or more tattoos.” (I am assuming they are referring to the same age range)

I would venture a guess that most of our porn features that guys and gals born between 1992 and 2003, so we will naturally see alot of inked skin due to their age group and their exhibitionistic lifestyle.

I, personally have no tattoos. I have enough scars from high school and college athletics.

I generally don't like tattoos, period. On anybody! Maybe it's because I'm older and the few tats that I saw on people I knew were confined to older males, like a grizzled old uncle with an anchor on his arm from his Navy days, as an example.

I especially dislike *most* tattoos on pretty women and gurls. Maybe a tasteful little butterfly or flower on a feminine ankle could be attractive. But keep it small and understated, please! Our own daughter, now in her 40s, had half-ring of flowers tattooed around the back of her neck very soon after leaving the house as she was maturing. We'd never 'forbidden" her from such as thing when she lived at home, but it almost seemed as if this was a priority now that she was on her own.

I can appreciate the artistry and some of the beautiful colors I've seen in some very elaborate tattoos. But they're permanent! Given that so many women frequently like to change their hairstyle, color or other things about their appearance, why would one want something difficult to change or conceal on a patch of her skin for the rest of her life?!

I'd think a temporary tattoo could be a cool alternative, and have even considered applying something suggestive and sexy to a discreet area of my body in contemplation of discovery by a potential lover. That could be fun. But I wouldn't want it there for the remainder of my life!

For me, tattoos are not my thing.

I have a collection of scars, some from injury, one or two are from burns, and there is a story behind each one. These are my tattoos.

My father recommended I get no identifiable marks - LOL. I'm going out the way I came in - no ink, no iron.

Why do you think tattoos and bisexuality are linked?

Allot of times looks can be perceived from porn. There are many "gay" and "bi" actors in porn that have tattoos. And it does not always look like there are as many straight porn actors who have tattoos or as many as those in gay and bi scenes.

I have two small tats, one in my left shoulder and one on my ankle. Neither identify me sexually. I had them done a long time ago. I toyed with the idea of having one with my daughter's name done after she was born but decided against it. I keep coming back to it but as yet haven't had it done and don't think I ever shall.

In principle I'm not against tattoos, and find them often very attractive, but am not keen on whole body tats, especially when covering a face. However, art like beauty is in the eye of the beholder and who am I to take issue with a person's body art?

I can relate to that as well Csreef. Nice to see you by the way :-). I have ones from a few burns by cigs intentionally when young and a few from accidents from broken glass and falling a few times. I really find two tats on women or men should be enough. Anymore than that seems like overkill or some need to fulfill an obsession that only the individual can understand and possibly his/her lover. When I watch porn more than a few is a turn off for me.
