HELP! My Java won't let me in

I am usually fairly competent when it comes to computers - but sometomes the software architecture can get the best of me. OK - Here's the problem:
When I clic on "Chat" I get an error message -

"The Jave Runtime Environment cannot be loaded"

I clic "OK" Then I clic chat again - another error message -

Several Java Virtual machines in the same process caused an error - or

Several Java Virtual machine running in the same process caused a fatal error.

Does anyone know how to get around the freeking Java monster?
