Well, after a chat with daddy.... he said no ones stopping me if I want to move back east cause he knows I'll rather be over there than here hehe
So I got to thinking.... what are the best areas in Ontario to live in??
Things I want:
- Nice area, quiet setting (not busy busy busy like Toronto)
- Has safe housing. No or low crime areas.
- I know friends in Aurora, StCatherines/Niagara Falls and Guleph
-however having been to Guleph, it might seem to lonely lol
-Aurora is where I grew up and I loved it there. I still remember the layout of my old house... and we're talking about the 80s and be being 11 when i left!!! lol)
- Been to StCatherines/Niagara Falls mostly on school trips and its nice but I also know its a tourist area and I kinda want to avoid that unless the theres areas thats not so "touristy"
- Areas where its deaf friendly and Gay/Lesbian friendly too! (OF COURSE!! HEHE)
Ahhhhhhhh :)
Post or PM me with suggestions! :)
Oh ya...Thanks in advance!

Hmm Tasha, from my point of view i would only recomend you Europe (yes, Scandinavia of course), but it's all up to you to decide. Personaly i never liked Ontario that much as i always loved Quebec. I always felt much more confortable in Quebec.

Unfortunately, money tends to drive the answer to your question, Tasha. Aurora is nice but has become quite expensive (and has expanded since you grew up there). Not all parts of Toronto are hectic -- that's a West Coast perception!. For example, I live in southern Scarborough near Pickering, it's quiet and crime-free. However, it's all houses and townhouses, few if any rentals that I know of. Toronto, of course, is the big GBLT centre, the third in North America after SF and NY, and that has to be considered too, in terms of meeting and mixing with people. Bradford, north of Aurora, is probably still cheaper and I hear it's pretty. Port Hope is quiet and pretty, but over an hour away. So you might want to start by saying: this is what I'm prepared to pay each month, and I want to rent/own, and see what your possibilities are at that point. Also: just how far from the city are you prepared to be? Guelph, which you mentioned, is only 45 min away, but you've suggested it might be too remote for you.
I'll ask my wife for her advice on this and let you know if she has further suggestions...she's savvier than I in such things.

Europe could be fun, at least until it ends up as a province of the Islamic Caliphate -- something the Europeans seem indifferent to, by and large. As for Quebec, if you're French isn't good you'll face some very rude treatment, trust me.

I don't know, I went to Montreal once and had to ask for directions a few times and people were kind to help me out and one even made a little map. :)
Maybe it depends on which areas your in? or maybe I just happened to have asked the nicer ones?
I did not like Montreal that much... just seems my heart belongs to Ontario. :) Like I belong there.

I don't know, Europe is great in general, and much more opened, even those east European countries, including Russia, that's why i prefered to stay here.
As for Quebec, believe me, i hanged a lot with lots of Frenchs all around and they didn' had any problems. Or i just had and my Renault squad had just lucky to avoid any rude treatments.
But Ontario, you know, i always had that feeling when i gone out from Toronto up more northern such a nice feeling, standing and listen to the trees....
"In the middle of the winter, just around after midnight, go out deep in the woods, and listen to the tress: It actually speaks"
I remember i wrote this when i was in Ontario.

hi tasha, i'm looking to get outta ontario. wanna trade houses? lol
i have my sites set on moving west or east.. toronto have tons of nice suburbs that aren't as "city-ish" as the downtown core.
ottawa is a nice city but cost of living is high..
kingston and london are big enough that you could find lots of work opportunities and probably some deaf and/or LGBT communities.
barrie is undergoing tons of growth these days..
thunder bay, well, i've never been there, but i hear they have cold winters!

Montreal is the city where you'll be shown the least noxious treatment, though I've had some. After all, it had a large and dominant English presence for so long. But Quebec City and other cities and towns? -- that's where the concept of 'pure laine', not altogether dissimilar to "Aryan blood", really lives....shudder....

"Pure laine" is far from being similar to the aryan blood concept. It doesnt hold any "we are better" or "we are the only race worth being here". It basically represents the descendants of the french colonists, the "first" one to colonize. It is not directly related to the French however, since they dissociated themselves really quick from them (well, they were abonned, so...) and slowly formed an independant nation, which is since the British invasion being assimilated (by Canada(the British) and the USA).
The license plate here is "Je me souviens" ("I remember") and is a reference to that. Sadly, too many of us are forgetful...
BUT, that doesnt mean we gonna kick your ass or anything. We are an opened multicutural nation. Of course, if you dont speak french, you might get some trouble, but thats the same anywhere. English is an issue because of the assimilation fact, we dont hate/despite it or the people, but the acts that took place and are still going on. Why not get over it? There have been plenty of attempts, but they all failed miserably.
Sooo, if you are willing to learn french, you will be quite happy here, otherwise, you might wanna stick to montreal, since its the most bilingual of it all.
(PS: Hurray for a bilingual canada where all the french speakers have to accept english, but not the other way around *sigh* )
Rawr! sorry, this is off topic and shouldnt be here
