View Full Version : Other Uses For Porn

Besides the obvious, have you ever used porn for something other than the obvious?
I think a lot of people use porn for emotional reasons and don't always realize it.
I used to be very anti-porn, so I have been on both sides of the proverbial fence.
What I have found is that my anti-porn views were very much fear based and ignorance based. I just believed what I had been told and didn't check into it for myself.
Here I am, several years later and I have seen damn near everything under the sun! lol! Some things I learned to avoid really quickly! At first, I would sort of 'peek' at it with my mouse carefully poised over the close button because I found that some scenarios were frightening to me on an emotional level. That suprised me at first.
Having been a 'victim' (I hate that word) previously of sexual abuse, I found that gradual exposure to porn actually helped me to deal with the emotional issues associated with abuse. I'm not talking about watching rape porn or abusive porn....I'm talking about the more (what would you call it?) acceptable(?) porn.
For myself, I find that porn scenes where the people involved don't look like they like each other to be very disturbing to me. Or if they look angry or like their trying to 'get back' at someone.
I had some strange reactions to some things that would seem 'light' as far as porn goes too. Like a group of women (particularily if they looked to be genuinely enjoying themselves) in a lesbian scene I had no problem with.....but a picture of a woman by herself would send me into some kind of emotional hellhole!
Or the placement of hands in a scene....or the way a guy would hold his cock...subtle things that took me a while to figure out, but very helpful in figuring out some things for myself that seemed to have more of an emotional association than a sexual one....but would become an issue sexually by association.
I could then look for scenes that felt 'safe' emotionally and greatly diminish and alot of times, break the emotional associations.
But try telling that to most therapists! lol!! Especially an anti-porn one, which a lot of them seem to be.
So it was a tool I developed on my own over time, and am amazed at how helpful it really is.
Does anyone else use porn for other than the obvious?

Sometimes I watch it due to lack of experinces :)
Like if theres GOOD real kissing going on (Abby Winters for example), I watch how they do it lol (but ONLY... and ONLY if the 2 have real chemistry and are really enjoying kissing each other. I hate the fakes and the ones that look like they'll rather do something else lol)
Same with oral... yes I know everyones different.... but sometimes its nice to get an idea HOW to do it if you have never done it before.
How they use thier hands too and so on.
Sometimes I watch how one seduces the other lol Just get an idea of signs and such.
Some postions are what we'll use too in real life so I think about postions to...
I don't work out much so sometimes I'll think "ah, maybe I should work out more so I can be flexiable like that" lol
I sometimes like good porn cause if the chemistry is there between the 2 actresses like Abby Winters and some Viv Thomas films then you could learn something lol Get ideas and so on.
Even tho I KNOW everyones different and Communication will always play a part before sex happens. (like allowing her to tell me how to do something the way she likes it... etc)
Tasha
PS Yes, I like to watch good lesbian porn. I now own my first Abby Winters porn hehe

Yeah,
I use it for a sleep aid
Once you've seen one porn movie, they all seem alike
No plot (most don't even try to develop a plot)
nothing even close to acting
Usually, the first minute or so is just a setup for the actors (I use that term loosely) to take off their clothes...
Once that happens, you basically get a variety of penises and vaginas doing the few variations on the theme...then they all seem alike and the sound tracks could be interchangeable.
In fact, the endless sighs, moans, etc. act kind of like a sleeping pill....

I was once stranded on a desert Island with nothing but a box of old used porno mags. I would have been quite content with the situation except for the fact it was all female porn and despite my best efforts it turned out completly useless for the obvious. So I used my crafty skills and built myself a raft out of the porno. The mags had been coated with a layer of dried "Water Proofing" from their previous users, so they worked quite well. The thicker ones I used for the base, and the fold outs were used as sails. I only spent an afternoon at sea before a ship rescued me. Apparently the sailors had notice THAT raft from over 50 miles away (that and the cute, half naked rugged boy sitting on it in dissolving clothing). Needless to say I was the most welcome cast away they ever had on the ship, or any other for that matter.
So has porn ever done anything for me other than the obvious? Porn saved my life.

lol I used porn as a way of learning body language......
* fake * and *real * porn are easy to tell apart, but its the body language that makes it so real, the people are not * turning * it on for the camera, they are turned on by each other and the camera is allowed to roll
just by watching the non sexual interaction of the actors, I soon developed a better understanding of human interaction, and noticed that the difference between liars, users and genuine people were like placing three people from different races beside each other....
the other use I had for porn, was to learn about the full differences between the hetero, gay, lesbian, bi body language and the differences between the * standard issue * body, the trans body, the intersex body, and the * shemale * body
I am a analytical and logical thinker, so I think in terms of sequences and patterns, and be watching porn, I learnt what patterns work with what people...and when people started to say how incredible it was, that I knew what they wanted and desired, I would just smile.... I didn't know anything, but their body language has told me heaps

I didn't know anything, but their body language has told me heaps
They say that body language is 55% of the message...where words are only 7% and the remaining 38% is tone.
I know that I am hypersensitive to body language....and body language tends to go straight to Mr Amygdala for processing, unlike words which take the longer route, allowing for that extra second of 'pause'....so when one has 'reactions' (lucky me lol) to body language, it's a hell of a thing to change....(wonders if propranolol could actually be helpful with that aspect...hhmmmm)
Now that you mention it, that DOES seem to be what I 'discovered' while veiwing porn...a way to activate a memory and then by finding a 'safe' scene, store that memory into 'normal memory' instead of having it continue to reside in the 'traumatic memory' that the amygdala uses to set off the fight or flight respone (reactions).....that's also how EMDR works....which is also suprisingly effective.....
....this really has me thinking now.....lol....thanks!

I occasionally like porn because it allows me to explore my sexual fantasies, which I never want to actually experience. Unfortunately, usually I find half of the action to be a complete turn-off requiring liberal use of fast-forward. Overall, I like porn literature best because I can let my mind illustrate the action the way I like to be.

In my prior post, I was thinking about mostly movies, DVD's,etc.
Nice well done photos can allow one to use your imagination to "live" out fanatasies, etc. and when well done are more "art" than strictly what I refer to as porn...
Is David's Michelangelo porn?? LOL

Some really good art can be incredibly erotic. That is why the border between art and porn is so blurred. Personally, I love good art. For me, visiting a really good art museum can be as satisfying as sex. I have been fortunate to travel and visit some of the best. However, occasionally I need to explore my sexual fantasies. Porn facilitates sexual fantasy exploration greatly even if it is not art. Sometimes I just crave sexual excitement. Could my use of porn be my substitute for chocolate?

My roommate gets together with a bunch of friends and watches porn DVDs together because they think they're funny... they pick really fucked up ones too, like ones that involve zombies and weird shit like that... they just watch it to laugh... and sometimes the funniest part isn't anything on the screen, but rather just the thought that someone actually took the time to make this, and thought it would be hot.

I pretty much agree with Bree--except I don't fall asleep but I do get bored with porn. I guess it's the writer in me, but I don't care much for porn--but I do like to read "erotica." Each year I get a copy of the best of erotica edited by Susie Bright--I now have like copies going back for the last six or seven years now---I do get very much turned on by erotica but porn sorta turns me off--now simple pictures of people doing things can be more of a turn on--but as Bree pointed out---most video porn is so forumlaic and such that it really insults the intelligence.
I really wish that things were such that movie producers/directors were free to produce real films, like with real actors, and all the elments of good story telling and writing in which the stories did have some explicit sexual scenes--but no!!!---due to many factors-that just cannot be so--it used to be many years ago that the "art movie" houses could play such films when they were produced like "Last Tango in Paris" or "Henry and June"---
Bernardo Bertulucci's Director's Cut of "The Sheltering Sky" starring Debra Winger and John Malkevich had several explicit sexual scenes between Winger and an actor from the middle east----that version was not shown in America-only in some movie theaters in Europe on a limited release, but that version was available for a time here in the US and it did make it to some movie channel--it was really wild to see that scene. Debra Winger and the actor had to be having sex or it was a very good job of faking it.
I was also surprised that the filiming of that scene was not all over the Hollywood tabloids!!!
I do understand that there are some producers of sex videos who do attempt to hold a higher standard.
The thing with porn---they are not cheap in price, but most have cheap and cheesy production values and the like. I am not gonna pay for that stuff--I have too many other dibs on my money to spend it on porn videos--I am always about 10 years behind in buying the music CDs I want anyway---

My friends and I do this once in a while too, its great! it gives us an excuse to go check out the porn section that we really do want to see.

Me too! I have yet to find a good story on an actual erotica site, but I read a lot of amateur fiction in general and some of it gets erotic. I have to go to general fiction sites for it, though, because at least some of it is well written, unlike anything I've found on an erotica site. I'll have to check out this Susie Bright, because I haven't found much in the way of really good published books of erotica. I did read and enjoy "Kushiel's Dart" by Jaqueline Carey, part of a very long series of S&Mish erotic fiction.
Video porn is so crappy I don't even go there except online where it is free, and even then my tastes are pretty discriminating.

I use porn for relaxation. Strange uh! Somehow porn helps me relax. I can watch porn, get all worked up and masturbate, have my wife masturbate me or end up having sex and then go to sleep. I can sometimes use it to turn my self on and take things from there.

Seriously, I like porn occasionally, but it's kind of like watching someone else eat a cheeseburger... it just makes me hungry.

Collect them!
50-100 years from now they'll be worth a lot! (like gazillions)
Excellent way to ensure your future relatives will remember you, especially if you were an actor in one(?)
So, don't just stand by, make those home videos, burn DVD-s, what the heck are you doin' here reading my post

We used to wathc porn together to get turned on, but most of what is available isn't so much about loving sex as it is about S&M or other activities that are not erotic to us.
