I love the idea. What type /kind of treasure hunting Solomon? There are so many...and treasure can be a different thing depending on the person. :)

For a time--I had lived in the Vero Beach, Fla area--that part of the Florida coast is "The Treasure Coast"--I never thought much about it--figuring it was just one of those chamber of commerce made up things but lo and behold---a few years ago-after a storm had some through--a gentleman with a metal detector had a big hit on his unit while combing the beach near the Sabastian Inlet State Park--he wound up retrieving the treasure from the wreck of a Spanish Galleon that had floundered there three hundred or so years ago--

the treasure he found was worth millions--if only I had known that was there--I walked up and down that beach hundreds of times--makes me want to go out and buy a White's metal detector and go back down there again!!!

I live in Melbourne, Fl near the Treasure Coast and I've been to the Treasure Museum. I've seen some of the absolutely gorgeous Spanish treasure that has been recovered there.

There *are* some rules and regulations. Anything found in the water out to either 1/4 or 1/2 mile belongs to a salvage company that bough the water rights some time ago. Anything you find in the sand on shore is yours.

Ken has a metal detector but we rarely make it down there. There is SO much shore line to cover that it's a real hit and miss kind of thing unless you know where to search.

I content myself with other types of treasure hunting. We have premium annual passes to Disney World and so we are there once or twice a week. As part of our regular forays, we have taken up pin trading. Older pins (2002 and earlier) are made of cloisone'. Newer pins are made of enamel. Ken collects older pins and I collect limited edition Maleficent along with a few other things.

These days pins are as close as we can get to hand drawn animation and so they are my little treasures :)

that's a good question.... i know that i don't do well in the water, so unfortunately i think that leaves out for me the sunken ships :(

but there's gotta be treasure's that are land based too.... sorta like the movie 'National Treasure'

sorta like playing history detective hehehee!

that's awsome! i can just imagine the feeling of finding something like that! the ship alone would probably be worth a small fortune! but just imagining finding another pathway that history's taken..... gives me chills!

i'm very glad ya found your treasure..... but for some reason someone saying that i find is sad....

to me it's sorta like someone graduating and deciding that there's just nothing left to learn anymore.... :(

don't mean to minimize your finding.... i presume that you're talking about love and i think that's awsome! but as i find with flex... there's always the rest of our lives to new experiences.... we just get to share'em now

My dad is into "treasure hunting". He's always watching the treasure hunting shows. He's really into panning for gold and gem stones. However, he's pretty darn good with a metal detector. A few years back, he learned of an automobile accident involving a coin dealer. He went out with his detector and came back with both pockets on his pants filled, his coat pockets were filled as well as his shirt pocket filled with silver quarters. He kept going back for about a month afterwards and everytime..man he came back with a haul.

If any of you have metal detectors and have a Sonic Drive-In in your town that has a volleyball court, you can usually find a lot there too. :tong:

A while back I picked up some literature about a treasure hunt but you need a gps to do it. It's called geocaching.( http://www.geocaching.com/) It looks interesting but I don't have a gps. There are alot of online treasure hunts too. My idea of a treasure hunt would be to meander across country collecting rocks, looking for that one beautiful gem! But-due to the high gas prices...it will never happen!

I would love to find some of the BIG treasures...the ones that have history behind them! Like the treasure of the Knights Templar....or King Solomon's Mines...or unlock some of the mysteries of history...

I even have my own "mystery" treasure......a very decorative sword made between 1864 and 1882 that has been in my family for over 100 years at least...and no one knows the true history behind it....and none are left alive to ask.

I have researched this sword til I'm blue in the face (I'm not gonna post all the details here) but it appears to have been made right after the American Civil War for a society and is a high ranking sword. The records from this society from that time period are all but lost.

It is highly likey that there is a connection between this sword and Gen. Robert E. Lee, who is the spitting image of my father and my great grandfather...who also happened to be Lee's.

I would LOVE to solve that mystery!

Ooooooooooo-yes, yes, yes! I love a mystery. Makes me feel positively orgasmic! lol Am starting to feel all the little neurons firing up in my brain...
Is that a secret society? Kinda like the Masons? :)

This story was on one of those shows on how to find treasures and such, I think it was on the Travel Channel--I think he did get to keep it but a lot of the stuff is in a museum that is there along A1A in that area---they did not talk to the person who actually found the treasure--but were showing some of the things they had in the museum---the archelogists do say that there are many wrecks out there off that coast--they say there are wrecks that have more treasure on them than did the Atocha off the Keys found by Mel Fischer back in the 80s---

I've tried it with a metal detector on the beach when I was a kid with my dad and we just found loose change, cans, and stuff like that.

close.... Knights of Pythias, which is an order founded to encourage re-unification of the country, and is also an order that had Lincoln's stamp of approval from what i understand

and many of the members of KoP were also Masons, and Knights Templar.... and the sword was manufactured by the same people that manufactured the swords for the other society's as well

Maybe this song explains my view on that:

RUNNING WILD - Treasure Island

(Narrative:)
"Squire Trelawny and Dr. Livesay having asked me, Jim Hawkins,
to tell everybody the whole tale about the 'Island',
Flint's treasure and Mr. Silver.
Keeping nothing back but its position and that only,
because the major part of the treasure has not been lifted yet.
I personally think we would never have begun this adventure
and set course with the 'Hispaniola', if we had known
what would happen and that some of us would never return,
having lost their lives. Sometimes the whole story haunts to my dreams
and brings me the worst nightmares I ever had.
That's when I hear the cries of the fallen,
the waves pounding the rocks on the coast and Captain Flint's
raw voice screaming: 'Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight! Hahahah!'.
And I tell you, no oxen and wain ropes will ever take me
back to 'Treasure Island'!!!"

Mr. Bones is fighting 'Black Dog'
He wants to split him to the chine
'Blind Pew' the bringer of the spot
Horse-hooves trampling his spine
We have the map to start our trip
The 'Squire' has the ship and the sailors
'Long John' is the man with the grip
No one knows he will raid us

The yell of the slain
The waves on the rocks
Captain Flint's raising hell
He's calling my name
To drive me insane

Treasure Island
Where the brave fell
A one-legged devil
From the pit of hell
A greedy demon on his treasury
Cursed the island, oh, eternally

'Long John' is spreading his law
Hatching a death bringing plot
I show up in a council of war
What I heard in the barrel from this toad

The yell of the slain
The waves on the rocks
Captain Flint's raising hell
He's calling my name
To drive me insane
But I'll never return to

Treasure Island
Where the brave fell
A one-legged devil
From the pit of hell
A greedy demon on his treasury
Cursed the island, oh, eternally

We see the land, shining sand
But it can be our grave
I jump the boat, overload
Trying to be too brave
Burning sun, find 'Ben Gunn'
Assassins claim the ship
I cut the rope, I try to cope
To free it from 'Hand's' grip

Pulling row, cannon law
The jolly-boats last trip
Killing tried, stockade fight
'Silver's' villains quit
Abandonment, to 'Silver's' hand
A cunning pact is made
Trick or treat, make scoundrels
Bleed, their dullness will be paid

I stumble to the stockade
The sweat drips from my brow
No one keeps a lookout, oh no!
The rabble owns it now
'Silver' tries to shield me
The 'Black spot' comes again
He throws the map onto the ground
He plays a tricky game

Pickaxe, rope and shovel
The dead-man marks the way
No chest, no gold, no silver
2 guineas is their pay
Musket cracks like thunder
The blood is running red
'Ben Gunn' kept the treasure
From the beginning to the end

When we put back to the sea
'Silver's' chains are doubly tight
'Long John' and his counterfeit key
Sidle away into the night

The yell of the slain
The waves on the rocks
Captain Flint's raising hell
He's calling my name
To drive me insane
But I'll never return to

Treasure Island
Where the brave fell
A one-legged devil
From the pit of hell
A greedy demon on his treasury
Cursed the island, oh, eternally

Below is a link to a good site for those who have the taste of gold and sliver and who hope to find the mother lode in Florida and elsewhere---there are many other sites but this one seems like a good starting point

 I love the whole hunting for treasure, sunkin ships and all. Exploring underwater caves. Unfortunately for me I don't think my lungs could handle the depths. So I watch discovery channel. And find other treasures with searching out antiques that may need a little TLC. I enjoy the whole process and finding the true treasure under so many years of paint and other finishes. Tho have been tring to get hubby interested in getting a metal detector. That will be fun at any rate for both of us.

Treasure hunting isn't like National Treasure. It's not nearly as glamorous. It's 95% research. You have to enjoy the hunt or it will drive you crazy. You do learn a lot of history along the way.

I've done that as well, or sometimes I'll get wooden furniture for free or really cheap and then fix it up and either keep it, or sell it.
