i have the latest JAVA, no firewall and i still get this message:
Could not connect to main.bisexual.com:8080.
Possible reasons include:
- The chat server system at main.bisexual.com is temporarily unavailable.
- Your computer is behind a firewall or proxy server. Please ensure that your firewall permits outgoing TCP connections to main.bisexual.com on port 8080.
can somebody please help me out?
thanks!

check to see if you have pop-ups blocked.
Try a different browser program... like firefox.

I have a question for you? Who is your Internet Service Provider??
For a time I was using Verizon Wireless and with them---for whatever reason--the problem was with them---their system prevented me from getting to chat and I got the same messages---
I knew it was their problem since whenever I was someplace I could use their wireless connection on my notebook----no problem with getting on chat here.
I had called and spoken with the tech people at Verizon and they did admit--they do block access to some sites for whatever reason---they would not give me a good response as to why---
I did use a chat room at another non-sexual website and they used JAVA --the chat feature at that site looked much like this one save that it did have a good way of organizing topics that we don't have here---and got on with no problem.
I am willing to bet--it is your ISP that is your block point...

Another thing to look at would be "trusted sites" in your internet security settings. If I remember right, you need to go to explorer on the start menu & right click on it.

ISP's block IP addresses at their own discretion. What you may be able to do today you may not be able to do tomorrow. That goes for web sites as well as email servers. You can get email today and have email from the same source get bounced tomorrow. Unless you call the ISP and find out if it is blocked and ask them to open it you are stuck. Over the last two years I have had to do this several times with bright house. Even tech bulletins I pay to receive have been bounced. Back when I worked for AOL they would block entire neighborhoods because of one person. :bipride:

thanks for helping!
i have been experimenting and i can chat using firefox...unfortunately this is prohibitive as on my connection firefox is SLOW! making chat impossible!
so, the problem must lie with my IE7 browser settings?
any more ideas?
thanks again!

One thought that comes to mind is to create a new user on your PC, and try things when logged in as that user. That way you'd be starting with a "cleaner" instance of IE. If it works, you can "stare and compare" settings to try and find the one that matters, although it might be something hard to find (like an Active-X control).
Of course if that paragraph doesn't make any sense to you, and/or if you aren't familiar with having different user logins on your PC that may be too confusing and too much work.

Had the same problem with IE7, finally solved it by Disabling the Content Advisor, Internet Options, content console and setting security to medium low, and allowing all pop ups(until edited to allow bisexual.com) doing this under the "guest user" option on the pc. Of course I continued to run an older version of IE under my primary user account. Good Luck.

Why exactly are you stuck with IE7?
