Gawd, you remind me of my brother... every few minutes I hear a "widdly-diddly-dee" coming from his bedroom as he tries to pull off the likes of Dragon Force (et al) on that little plastic guitar with no strings. he even gave me a copy of the "Inhuman Rampage" CD. But I just can't be bothered with video games these days... I think anyone who plays them beyond the age of about 25 is a bit "sad", but I suppose I can understand it if thats your prefered way of chilling out. OK for you, I suppose, but my brother is about 30 now, lol.

Anyway, didn't mean to put a downer on your day...

Ammi...all I'm wondering is how all this is going to affect our plans on global domination. It's good days like this that make all evil intentions disappear! :tong:

I plan on playing video games for the rest of my life and there's nothing "sad" about it at all. For me it's called work. I'm a video game programmer, and in order to make sure that a video game isn't buggy at all we have to test them, which means playing them.

Plus, my parents still play video games and their in their 40's. My paternal grandmother plays video games too and she's in her late 60's. The problem really is that some people see video games as a childhood thing, when some games are very obviously meant to be played by older people.

According to the ESA(Entertainment Software Association) as shown on their top top ten industry facts. (http://www.theesa.com/facts/top_10_facts.php)

2. Sixty-seven percent of American heads of households play computer and video games.

3. The average game player is 33 years old and has been playing games for 12 years.

7. Thirty-six percent of American parents say they play computer and video games. Further, 80 percent of gamer parents say they play video games with their kids. Sixty-six percent feel that playing games has brought their families closer together.

I just wonder though which average do they mean (pun not intended). Because with all those little kids playing video games there would have to be a LOT of gamers over 33 for that to be the mean average. I doubt they would use the median average because it would probably be a lot higher. I would guess that it's the mode average, meaning that separating gamers out into groups by the year of their age those 33 years old happen to be the largest group, or the plurality if you prefer.

Video Games really get a bum rap. I see them as the world's greatest art form and the most creative way a writer has of telling you their story because you actually get to experience the narrative first hand. Some much creative talent goes into games from designers to concept artists and even the composers for the musical score. Games are so powerful that they have instilled me with emotions no other media has been able to do: fear, joy, sadness... I don't usually cry during movies but games have done it to me on many occassions. And games let you step into other worlds and experience things that simply cannot be seen on this planet, It's the greatest games of all that show you a new world and make you question what goes on in the real one and question what it means to be human.

Video Games also opens you to a whole new social life, whether it be on-line, talking to like-minded gamers at your local game store or going to a convention to celebrate your love of games with the world. My love of games doesn't end in front of the TV. Infact some of my best sketches in the past have been ispired by games that tugged at one of my heart-strings.

So I don't think people playing video games past 25 is sad, I hope I will still be playing games until the day I die. And I hope people who haven't tried gaming yet will eventually give it a shot. You never know, You may enjoy it.;)

I don't mean to sound like I'm down on video games. I occasionally like oldschool first person shooters like goldeneye or perfect dark, but that's about the extent of it. I'd rather go outside.

I play videogames. My interest in them was waning (other things took up my time) but when I bought a PS3, my love of them was reinvigorated. HL2, Portal, Uncharted, R&C:ToD...and there's MGS4 and GTAIV within the next few months. I'm going to be having heaps of fun. :)

And nothings5d did a good job in dispelling some stereotypes. :)

The only "game" that I've used in recent years was a digital chess computer. And that was with the logic in mind that it would help to sharpen up my strategic thinking. I still have a Playstation, but I can't be bothered to use it. I'd rather read a book, or do some creative work, tbh. BUT, I do admit that video games can sometimes be fun (from what I remember of them)...

kinda deveiating from the point but thats not a problem :D i like discusions about games TBH working in a games retailer i find that about 80% 90% of people are over 20 at least, i mean im 20 and i hope to be playing games for a good frew years my brother is 36 and he plays video games like theres no tomorow my sister 39 plays with her kids on the wii and has a ds her self my mum 59 has been playing point and click adventures such as longest journy and dream fall (kind of point and click) and i hope to get her into monkey island :D and disc world my younger sister 24 plays game as much as me :) personaly i dont think age has anything to do with gaming or gaming ability some of the best counter strike players in the world (IE are earning 50-60k a year for playing cs) are in there late 20's soooooooooooo just from my knowledge and so on most gamers i deal with are over 20 and i'd like to think none of them are sad most have a decent social life and all have fun and are happy ^^!

Hmm, well, as long as the individual/s are otherwise healthy, socially active and not "obsessed" with playing such games, then I suppose the occasional break from reality can't hurt...
