View Full Version : Do NOT Laugh...

I saw this on a friend's blog page, and laughed my a$$ off...

I'm using his synopsis: "I offer you a clip from 'Do Not Laugh High School', a great Japanese game show. the premise is simple: contestants are sent 'back to school', where they have to attend 'lessons' and so on... the catch being, as the name suggests, that whatever happens, they MUST NOT LAUGH. While the various presenters and backstage staff of the show obviously try to make them do just that.

That would, for most countries, be enough. But no, this is Japan. There must be penalties for laughing, lol...If all nations were like this, the world would be a better, and considerably stranger, place.

Enjoy this brief four minute clip. just DON'T LAUGH." (There are English subtitles as well...)

I can't believe nobody has responded to this yet! Maybe, it's because we're all still staring at our monitors, dumbfounded, mouths agape in bemusement...and I'm sure some of us are still recovering from rolling on the floor gasping for breath.

Kel and I don't watch much TV...but damn, if this was on, I fear I would find myself becoming addicted to the hilarious stupidity/bizarrity (which is a large part of *why* Kel and I don't watch much TV :tong:)! It is a sad statement on our society that there is *no* way that this show could ever be aired here (not without some heavy censoring, anyway).

Thanks for sharing this intercultural gem, gf!

Oh god, that was terrific! I think Anika's right though, there's no way in hell U.S. broadcasters would have a game show that involved flogging. Such a pity.

That is so correct...Bisexualnewbie and I were talking about that earlier when we saw the video for the first time - after we picked ourselves off the floor from laughing. FOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! :cutelaugh

LOL!!!

Notice such "stiff" penalties( )... getting caned like Michael Fay in Singapore opens too many wounds here still in the OOOSA (USA)

Maybe I just don't get Japanese humor, but I saw the clip and I am not impressed, amused, or even entertained by it.

Oh this is sooo funny....

The idea of the game show is Not to laugh, if you laugh yes you get flogged but maybe the idea of the quizz show is that the one that doesnt laugh gets the prize.

Classic!!!

Of course I cant keep my face straight at the Hard Gay Teacher lol. I'd lost the money lol.

ok, now my brain's working again after first exposing myself to that...
I do go for quite a bit of Japanese things my self normally, anime and manga and of course the original and still the best ToHo Godzilla movies.
And I'm familiar with their somewhat unique humour, but that was just...weird, even for me!

Awww. Bi-Druid, I'm sorry that you didn't get the jokes... It rocked, I cant believe that not many people have seen this on youtube... Its great.

The conscept of Japanese humor, is totally different from English or American humor.

Their humor is based on honour... I believe.

Yeah I like watching the odd movie, and reading a manga book. My favourite so far, is " Pet shop of horros" With the Count and the every stressful detective...

Any good manga comics or stories or films I should be watching (please let me know), once again great find!!

I thought it was hilarous, personally. The concept was pretty simple to understand, since I'd seen a couple of videos from this series posted before on other forums. But I can see how if you just stumbled across it randomly, you'd be totally baffled. The "hard gay" dude seems like a great comic actor, and if I were there in real life, I would've been in stitches. not that I wasn't whilst sitting in front of my computer.

I can see how other countries would object to broadcasting "corporal punishment" scenes, but the guys probably signed some kinda disclaimer...
