I just took these photos less than half an hour ago of nearby lightning strikes as some rough storms move through the area:

I AM VOLTMAN!!!!!!

(I feel like the Ton Hanks character did when he made his first fire in the movie "Castaway" when he is so proud that "I made fire!!")

Actually--you set the camera for taking long exposures on f/8 and on timed shutter release --pray that you get something--of course the best lightning flashes in the interval the camera is setting itself up or is done taking the exposure---and you don't get those great ones---you also do take a risk being out when lightning is not too far off--in this case--probably ten miles or so based on the timing of the thunder.

This was my first attempt to capture it---not too bad for a first attempt but certainly not my last!!!

Better to catch lightening than lightening catch you. Congrats on just surviving! That lightening looks scary as hell.

So, my question is, is that what you're using to power your avatar?

Cool shots.
I have a video that I downloaded from Metacafe, which is from a guy who was unfortunate enough to get hit by lightning, but was fortunate enough to be videotaping when it happened.
Nice bright flash and the video goes dead.

Nature is far more awesome than many give her credit for.
