Hello,

I thought I'd take the time to introduce myself since this seems to be such a vibrant, friendly community and I don't see any harm in trying. My name is Josh (obviously).

I've been bi-curious since childhood but only recently began identifying as bisexual* after I came to the realization that it was a possibility. Before that point (who knows what triggered it), I was blissfully unaware of the multitude of sexualities on the planet. I was vaguely aware of homosexuality because it has been rising in prevalence in educational studies. The idea that one could be heterosexual and homosexual (or somewhere between) had never occurred to me. I was struggling with it while I was dating a girl, slowly realizing that there were certain guys I found "cute" or "attractive" and that I was spending a more-than-usual time staring at cock in heterosexual porn. I'm still not out to anyone except my aforementioned (ex-)girlfriend and a gay online friend. Most of the people in my life are very homophobic. Yes, I know it's cliched to be afraid of coming out and should be easily overcome by inspiration apparent on this very website. Still, I haven't yet had a relationship with the same sex, there isn't really anything to come out about.

Sexuality aside, I very much enjoy reading, writing, playing and designing games of all kinds, and listening to and composing music. I love programming. I'm not totally sure where I want to go with my life but right now I'm on track to be a math major graduated in two years (after two years of community college) after which I will probably go to grad school for a masters in Artificial Intelligence. Video game design and programming are my dream, but there are many other things I would like to do, so I may just become a professor of mathematics/computer science.

I've looked at a lot of the content on this site and learned a lot from it. I hope the time I spend engaging in discussions will allow me to learn even more. I look forward to these exchanges.

Josh :flag3:

* This may be a crime since I haven't had a sexual encounter with a man, but, yeah...

Welcome Josh. All good things it their own time, Hon. Just let your sexuality emerge slowly and gently, and it'll unfold just like it did for the rest of us.:}
Pop into chat and see us sometime.

Josh,
First off, welcome to our home away from home. We hope you will enjoy your time here and learn as much from us as we may learn from you. This is a wonderful place to explore yourself, an actual real community. I agree with Cat, just give it time and all things will fall into place. There's no rush, you have the rest of your life to figure out what works for you. That also goes with "coming out". I'm not a big fan of coming out LOL The way I see it, who you have sex with is no ones business unless you choose to make it their business. I have chosen to tell a few of my friends, the response was great. But I also know that I was smart enough to tell the ones I knew would understand and leave the others out of it. There's no sense creating more confusion and tension in life, it's bad enough as it is. This may be bad advice but it has worked for me. As long as the people you are sleeping with know what's going on, there's no reason to out yourself to everyone, especially those who would judge and criticise. Just my :2cents:
Hope to get the chance to "meet" you in chat. Until then, enjoy!

Welcome to the site.

What sort of stuff do you enjoy reading, and why?

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I'm glad to see I was right about this being a good community.

I'm big on fantasy because it's, imo, the best escape. I tend to be rather picky when it comes to liking a book but I'll pretty much enjoy anything. My favorite authors are Mark Twain, Alexandre Dumas, Roger Zelazny, and Steven Brust. I like Dumas because he wrote soooo many long, adventurous stories full of court intrigue and action. The other three I like for their snappy, witty prose, especially in first person, and the way they keep suspense high throughout an entire novel. There's something about their casual style that sucks me in. All four of them have heavily influenced my writing. Tolkien and R. A. Salvatore have also influenced me, though I like them more for content than style.
