View Full Version : Where are all the young people?

I'm curious... is it me, or are most of the people on this site 30+ years of age? I have nothing wrong with a community focusing on this age group, I'm just wondering whether it's true generally or just my area. I'm 19 years old myself.

It's too bad that you guys don't realize how good you have it here.
The point is that this site is not focused on a particular age group, but on bisexuality.
That can encompass a lot of age groups.
For many of the folks on this site, they did not have the benefit of being able to, or in some cases had the awareness of their sexuality, because when most of us were in our late teens or early 20's, there was so much homophobia that coming out was just plain dangerous. There also was no internet in those days.
Not all of us knew what it was to be Bisexual when we were that young, because of the lack of acceptance then, so you shouldn't complain.
At least you have a safer society to come out in than what we had 20 - 30 years ago.
There are plenty of younger folks on this site. You just need to look for them.
We've found quite a few younger folks here, ourselves, but then we prefer younger guys.

Nope, not just you. It frustrated me, but people from 18-30 can be found if you put in work to look for them - - or expand your search if you find older people that still meet your criteria.
Most people our age either hit the clubs or go to craigslist. I personally find the clubs impersonal and unfriendly in Miami and finding bi men that are looking for a woman on craigslist is like searching for hen's teeth, so I came here.
(I'm 25. The fella it looks like I'll be ending up with is in his early/mid 30's.)

I know what you mean I am 23 and I only have one friend on here that is close to my age. I think younger people take a bit longer to accept them selfs or something.

If it's any help, I'm 25 myself.
I appreciate there does appear to be a tendancy towards the older groups, but everyone on here seems like such lovely people that I tend to forget or not even worry about bothering to find out how old they might be, as I found such a thing has never crossed my mind.
But yeah, we are on here, you just need to look around some more.
Also, it's may just be that most of our generation, as it were, don't know of this site. Might just be something as simply daft as that. I only found it via recommendations in the back of Bisexual's Guide to the Univers, and those who I've introduced to this site had never heard of it before hand.
Probably just need to get the word out some tis all

Disclaimer:I'm not young I just wanted to comment about the Guide to the Universe book.
I picked it up a few weeks ago and plan on reading it again> I'll have to say some parts of it entertained and amused me.
still.................................
some parts of it just seemed so cliche examples are
Dating the Hippy Bi Dude--"The long hair and smell of incense","Hendrix and Joplin playing in the background"
Dating the Hippy Bi Womyn-- "they usually don't shave their legs"
\"purple flowers braided into her beautiful hair"
The authors offer similar stereotypes for Corprate Types, Goths, etc. etc
I can't figure if they're being over the top on purpose to mess with homophobic readers or what?

Josh,
LOL
You must understand... or perhaps you don't... that bisexuality is something that:
1. older people who have been fighting with strong social pressures against homosexuality (part of our identity) finally got tired of and said 'the hell with prejudice, I'm doing what I feel"
and
2. younger people that enjoy the benefit of society as liberated as it is so they feel much, much, much, (did I emphasize much?) less inhibited to be open to (not deny) bisexuality at a much earlier age.
At your age I hadn't even heard the word 'bisexuality'... let alone explore and define this... zone... even though I was living it by various love affairs that simply happened. I thought that by having sex with another man, I was gay. Then I'd have a love affair with a woman... am I straight? I didn't even consider my 'bisexuality' until my 40s. Then, holy shit, it made sense.
More difficult still were issues such as monogamy... (speaking for myself) I can only be emotionally tied to one person at a time.
Yet, (speaking for most of us 'bi') I had/have a sincere lust for penis and vagina... men and women!
Just as older blacks who drank from lower or separate drinking fountains as children, younger blacks have a much more integrated lifestyle because of those who went before them.
I'm convinced God sent the stronger souls first, because I'm awed by those who went before me.

People who come to this site seeking a community of friendship, understanding and support tend to be the ones who sustain it and most likely boast a longevity of membership and frequency of visitation. This is not suggesting that the younger set comes here primarily for sexual hook ups, but perhaps suggests that maybe they just aren't as patient to hang around and become a part of that community, a community that can offer the same thing to all ages and one that transcends the boundaries of age. Please don't be put off by the age situation...visit the chat room and become involved. You never know who might be visiting and they may very well be just like you....a younger person seeking to find someone near their own age who is seeking the same. In the meantime, you might very well find a comfortable place for friendship and support regardless of age!!
Good luck to you!
Hugs,
Kate

I'm 21. Been on this site for a few years. The age differences don't really bother me, I tend to get along better with people much older than I am.

Yeah I know what you mean but when I joined it was for the community. Making friends, having support, people to talk to. I may only be 18 but Ive been out since 13 and the other members are right. Just because it's more generally accepted doesnt mean that it didnt exist before us. I'm glad to see the variety on here. It is good to have mentors ^^. Either way welcome, enjoy & have fun. There are tons of great people around so just talk. :):)

I´m 20 but I think the numeric age doesn´t matter so much. You can have fun with older or younger people as well. My friends have been older all the time and I enjoyed it up to now.

Are you calling me old, Josh??
It's too bad that you guys don't realize how good you have it here.
Down, boy! Geez, he's not attacking the site...just asking a question! And a fairly reasonable one, at that.
*creaks in her rocker and says* Based on what I've seen here, Josh, *most* people here are 30+...but believe it or not, that's true of society in general...at least the part of society with access to an 18+ only site! But as you can tell from some of the responses, that doesn't mean that there are no under-30's around. But yes, get to know us...all of us (some of us old people are worth knowing too)...and then decide whether the site's worth your time.
Welcome to the site, and best wishes for finding what you're looking for!

hey.....i'm 18 here but age is not that much of an issue....yeah when you 1st join into chat the first question you kinda ask is 'how old are you' thinking that only people your age will hold the same values, tastes and experiences as you....this is so not true....call me stupid but the older you get the more life experience you have had and i find i get along with people older than me alot more than i do with people my age......not saying i have a grudge against people younger than 25 or something....soon you might realise that age aint nothing but a number

I've been on here for, wait let me check... almost 2 years now, and being 21 at the time I thought that everyone on here seemed older than me. After spending some time on the site I've found that there are a decent number of people closer to my age and that those who are older than me can still be very good friends. Just give it time and after a while you probably won't even bother with checking ages.

Awwww...sweetie...there are a lot of people on here that are of the "younger age" set....but us "old foggies" just tend to speak out more often....the younger generation seem to still be peeking out from behind whatever they are hiding behind while us older gens tend to say to hell with it...I don't care who knows and such is life.
You will find many youngens on here if you look...just see how many posted to your thread...
But never discount the older generation mi love....we are sexy...loving...caring...and full of life.
So enjoy yourself here hon....

Eh,
Im glad that so many 'younger' folks have spoken out on teh thread... letthem enjoy! Myself, Im glad that they grew up in an era that allowed them to open up and open Out without the bias that pervaded sociaty as I grew(Im not like, neolithic... but 42 seems young and old all at teh sam etime, on diff days!) up.
I figure there are many older folks here simply becuase by this time in our lives we're starting to shake off teh shakles of our minds. We're questioning or accepting ourselves as we never have. I am very thankful to have such a wide age group to look upon, and wonder at- some older than I, some younger.
Im quite grateful for teh differences, really.

i think that learning from older bisexuals and their expriences is awesome, however, we do need younger ppl here. y?
well idk it gets lonely, i mean in other gay/str8 sites, there r ppl chatting around their ages.
a 18 year old girl would rather talk to a 18 year old boy than a guy who is 40.
i luv this site and stuff but idk i just wish there were more younger ppl here, so i understand wat u talkin abt Jamie.
