NY Times Gay, Straight, Or Lying is on page 1 of google's results for "bisexual".

The artcile, "Gay, Straight, Or Lying" is on page 1 of google.com's results for "bisexual" (NOTE that to see it you have to go to and search with google.com, not googles local version for your country e.g. google.com.au or google.co.uk). To get there, go to http://www.google.com/ncr

For those that dont know, this article quotes dis-proven research that was done by a professor, who was later expelled from his university for using false data.

As a Search Engine Optimizer. Basically I can see this has happened because alot of people are linking to this article directly, even some pro-bi websites in mentioning the article, are linking to it. This is just feeding the problem.

The links for the main bisexual sites on page one are in a pretty sorry state. bisexual.org doesnt even have a links page and others are linking little or at all (bisexual.com is an exception as it has a large links directly). This makes the results vulnerable to pages like the NY Times article. It also means that an anti-bi website with good SEO (search engine optimisation) might one day make it to page 1, which would be a bad thing.

If your reading this and are concerned about it, there are some very simple, fast and easy things YOU can do right now, from your computer. With a concerted effort by may people, we can get this article off page 1.

1. When you post to this forum, or any forums, add the following links to your signature. Use anchor text that contins the
word "Bisexual" if at all possible, for the links. This will push these sites up the rankings and help push the NY Times
artcile out onto page 2 and hopefully beyond.

Great bisexual sites -
http://www.bisexual.org http://www.bisexual.com http://www.bidownunder.com http://www.msu.edu/~alliance/faq/faqbisexuality.html http://www.bisexualplayground.com/ http://bisexualpassions.com/ http://ww.usatoday.com/news/health/2008-01-15-bisexual-women_N.htm http://members.optusnet.com.au/~ausbinet http://torontobinet.org http://bi.org/ http://www.bi-nsw.org.au

2. Set up your own free bisexual blog on blogs.com You can use an anonymous nickname if you like. Write one post to it, it can be about how good you think bisexuals are, or can be anything from a interesting personal story to voicing about an issue. Use blogs.com where possible as other blog sites add something called “nofollow” to their links, which stops them being useful.
Add the following links -
http://www.bisexual.org http://www.bisexual.com http://www.bidownunder.com http://www.msu.edu/~alliance/faq/faqbisexuality.html http://www.bisexualplayground.com/ http://bisexualpassions.com/ http://ww.usatoday.com/news/health/2008-01-15-bisexual-women_N.htm http://members.optusnet.com.au/~ausbinet http://torontobinet.org http://bi.org/ http://www.bi-nsw.org.au
Try to make the link text use the word "Bisexual" if you can, but any link is better than none

Now- EVERYONE should do 1 and 2 because they take little time and effort. If you have time on your hands, please also do
3, 4 and if you own a bi website/blog already, 5.

3. Submit bisexual websites to social bookmarking sites like digg.com. There is a list of such websites to submit the links to www.caroline-middlebrook.com/blog/do-follow-social-bookmarking-sites/ . More can be found by searching google for “Do-follow social bookmarking sites”.

Submit the following links where you can, with positive reviews -
http://www.bisexual.org http://www.bisexual.com http://www.bidownunder.com http://www.msu.edu/~alliance/faq/faqbisexuality.html http://www.bisexualplayground.com/ http://bisexualpassions.com/ http://ww.usatoday.com/news/health/2008-01-15-bisexual-women_N.htm http://members.optusnet.com.au/~ausbinet http://torontobinet.org http://bi.org/ http://www.bi-nsw.org.au

4. Go to http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=lin...ww.nytimes.com
This will give you a list of sites linking to the NY Times article. To get that site of page 1 of the results, it will help
alot if those links are taken down.

Email the administrators/webmasters of the sites and politely ask them to take the links down. If you see the links mentioned
on any wikipedia pages edit the page yourself and take it down. (wikipedia is user editable, and the research has been shown to be
innacurate).

5. If you own a bisexual website/blog or have a blog/website of any kind, add the following links with the anchor text "bisexual"]

http://www.bisexual.org http://www.bisexual.com http://www.bidownunder.com http://www.msu.edu/~alliance/faq/faqbisexuality.html http://www.bisexualplayground.com/ http://bisexualpassions.com/ http://ww.usatoday.com/news/health/2008-01-15-bisexual-women_N.htm http://members.optusnet.com.au/~ausbinet http://torontobinet.org http://bi.org/ http://www.bi-nsw.org.au

If possible make the link text use the word "Bisexual", but any link is better than none

Also, Whatever you do - DO NOT link to the NY Times article, even just talking about it. Googles Web Robot sees a link as a "vote" for a page and each link pushes a sites rank up.

The pro-bi links ive mentioned in this article are random pro-bi ones I obtained by searching google as well as a few worthy
bi sites that I know of.

The more links we get to the legitimate and pro-bisexual sites and the more get taken down to the article in question, the
futher back down the rankings the ny times article will go down in the rankings and the higher the pro-bi websites will go.

We need as many people as we can involved in this effort, so people dont get mis-informed. This is serious, so if you have time, get to doing the above things. If you don't have time, just do 1 and 2 as they require little effort and can be done in less than 20 minutes of your spare time.

correction: bisexual.org actually does have a links page, you just cant see it from the front entry page (the "edit" link stopped working). A bi webring might not be a bad idea, to get as many pro-bi links as possible on all the main bi pages. Every link is seen by the search engines as a vote. Theres also not enough bi websites out there, and there can never be too many. So if you'd like to start one, feel free to do so.

I may have some other ones that could be added to the pro bi list of sites, which I hope should be useful.

There's a Bisexual networking/dating site I found - www.bicupid.com

There is also the Bisexual Community News site - http://www.bicommunitynews.co.uk/

And there's this one which I think I actually found via the links page on this site if I remember correctly - http://www.bimedia.org/

Hope these help fight the good fight

Also, local groups could be useful.
There's http://londonbi.bi.org/ , which at the moment is redirecting you to their other bisexual site at http://www.bisexualunderground.org/ . This is a socialising, supportive group, much like this site but on a more localised and personal scale, but surely this is all good.

Sites that are pro-full-LGBT I'd imagine would also be helpful too - http://www.lgbthistorymonth.org.uk/ is on page 1 of the UK google at least, so surely that's a step in the right direction for a world over.

Ive done some further research.

It turns out this NY Times article is one page 1 as the direct result of a shady SEO (search engine optimizer) doing some dirty work to get it there.

He or she has been posting the link all over the place, to spam blogs (blogs created specifically for spam purposes - usually machine generated), forums (with illegitimate, spam articles), wikipedia pages and all, in an effort to hijack the "bisexual" keyword. He posted a link to the page on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biphobia , i've taken it down myself because anybody can edit wikipedia and clearly it doens't belong as a "link" on a page about biphobia. He spammed the link here to this link directory (remove spaces)
http://www . leader-development . com/Society/Gay_Lesbian_and_Bisexual/Bisexual/. Thats a fairly concrete example of a professional search engine spammer.

Ive reported the site to google as a spam result using googles webmaster tools, hopefully they act upon it and get rid of it. If you want to make your own spam report go here http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html

I think that a link to that article on the wikipedia biphobia article is justified, as it is a major example of the topic of the article.

I also got the one http://biloves.com. It says it is the world's first, largest and most trusted dating site for bisexual and bi-curious singles and couples.
