Memorial in the Desert....

**This was sent to me by a friend and it Really upsets me, Ladies and Gents. If it disturbs you as much as it does me, please take some time to comment on it. Our Veterans deserve better than this. This simple memorial harms no one, but the Govt’, in its infinite wisdom, feels the need to try and destroy it. In destroying it, they demean the very principal of freedom, and thusly take away and degrade what our Veterans hold sacred. They hold no honor by doing this, and it hurts my heart and soul to see this happening. This place isn’t a fancy memorial or church or temple, but it IS a place of Spirituality and should be treated as such.

Our Veterans come there because it honors their fellow Vets, and in its isolation gives then the freedom they need to reflect and honor their fallen comrades. Being among their fellow Vets they can be free to cry, laugh, grieve or talk about old friends and acquaintances without the stigma of being called a "Crazy Veteran" Some go to remember, some go to pray, and I don’t feel that Anyone should take that right away from Anyone. Not only did our Veterans fight for this right, but its a God given right as well, and no man has the right to take that from another person. Neither do people who are "Offended" by a simple wooden cross situated out in the middle of God's land: The Mojave Desert.:disgust:

The ACLU has done some good things over time--more when they were new than lately--but they are one of those organizations that sorta got full of itself and decided it was a an aribiter of alll things it feels is within its grasp-----I don't see what the big deal is with this cross---as people noted in the comments on YouTube----if you go to Arlington or any of the other national cemeteries--you see many crosses, some Star of Davids and now---the symbol of the Islamic faith as well as a few pagan symbols that are used as burial markers--I may very likely be buried in one of those sites and I want a celtic cross on mine if that is allowed----those people sure have taken the notion of "seperation of church and state" a bit too far, me thinks!!!!

They should keep their bloody hands off that desert cross--it doesn't hurt a damn thing!!!!!

It took awhile for the video to load sufficiently enough that I could actually watch more than five seconds at a time----it is something this has made it to the Supreme Court--I hope they do rule on this case (if they don't take it--then the present rulings to tear it down stand) and they vote 9-zip to allow the memorial to remain standing----this is just freaking ridiculuous!!!! If this stands---then it is a case that one person got his knickers in a bind and things were ruled in the favor of one person--that is not democracy by any stretch of the imagination!!!

The ACLU has done a lot of good, but now they are just being patsies of one individual that does not understand anything about what he is asking to be destroyed.

Many people here know that I am Wiccan and that I have no great love of things Christian, but this memorial serves a purpose that goes beyond religion and deserves to stay, on that basis.

It was not set up by a group proclaiming their religion to be superior to others, nor as an attempt to establish a religion by the government. It was established as a memorial to honor the fallen who have given their all for the freedoms that we all enjoy.

Taking the logic of their argument to it's ultimate conclusion would have us removing all of the religious symbols from the headstones at Arlington and replacing all of them with plain, unadorned, square headstones.

I couldn't finish watching it. This is the exact kind of thing that makes me sit back and tell my husband "You know, there are plenty of people who respect you and what you do, but there are far too many people out there that would love to see you beaten down and broken. I'll be damned if you go off somewhere and die for these people just to have them protest your funeral, or disregard any good that you ever did for this country. I'd be much happier if you just worked a job where you didn't have to worry about going to a warzone for a year."
