Well--the one of the last of the grand old men of newscasting has passed on to his greater reward---Walter Cronkite died today.

In his day---he was a great newsman--and well respected. There won't be another of his kind.

I got to meet him in the days after his retirement--along with several other people including a well known artist and a photographer---Cronkite took part in helping create a series of great books about the barrier islands of coastal Georgia, and the coastal areas of the southeast were among his favorite places to sail his boat--it was a gorgeous one---I met him a few times when he came in for booksignings at local bookstores in the Savannah/Hilton Head area and at some of the local marinas where he would moor up.

He was a gracious, courtly and gentlemanly man.

RIP Walter

Just heard...a truly AMERICAN Icon who represented the best that America had to offer. Honest, thoughtful, investigative and trusted by those who came to know him in the many different paths of his life.

...a truly AMERICAN...

*And what are WE, Portuguese?!? Lets leave the facade of patriotism out of this*

Journalism has less to do with some form of patriotic duty and more to do with facts.

~~Rest in Peace, W.C.~~

I remember exactly where I was when I heard him on the radio, telling that Kennedy had just been shot. He narrated some of the Victory At Sea series and for as long as I can remember he was on the radio and on TV. I think he was an honest man and I hope what-ever's waiting for us after we die, his reward is a good one!

I was in the middle of telling my mom about him passing when I noticed toilet water creeping up the hallway towards my living room...now everytime I think of him I'm going to automatically think of a rigorous sham-wow work out...

RIP
