Well--the one of the last of the grand old men of newscasting has passed on to his greater reward---Walter Cronkite died today.
In his day---he was a great newsman--and well respected. There won't be another of his kind.
I got to meet him in the days after his retirement--along with several other people including a well known artist and a photographer---Cronkite took part in helping create a series of great books about the barrier islands of coastal Georgia, and the coastal areas of the southeast were among his favorite places to sail his boat--it was a gorgeous one---I met him a few times when he came in for booksignings at local bookstores in the Savannah/Hilton Head area and at some of the local marinas where he would moor up.
He was a gracious, courtly and gentlemanly man.
RIP Walter
