So months ago when same sex marriages began, I made the joke, "Great. Now they're going to start wanting same sex divorces"

It was a joke

Indiana court rejects same-sex divorce
Judge says state law does not allow same-sex divorces

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indiana judge has turned down a divorce request from two women married in Canada, ruling that state law doesn’t give courts the authority to dissolve same-sex marriages.

Larissa Chism and Tara Ranzy lived in Pennsylvania at the time of their 2005 marriage but had since moved to South Bend. Ranzy asked an Indianapolis attorney to handle the divorce that involved no children.

A Marion County court held a hearing on the case after an employee noticed the petition bore two women’s names. Marion Superior Court Commissioner Jeffrey Marchal wrote in a Sept. 4 order that it would be logical for the state to permit same-sex divorce since it has chosen to prohibit such marriages.

Divorce attorney Karen Jensen told The Indianapolis Star no decision had been made to appeal.

Sad when jokes become realities.

The joke was gay divorce would not be allowed and they have to fight for it -- and well look, it's a reality!

In the UK where gay people can make their relationship formal, by having a civil union, if the relationship fails, the union must be legally dissolved, just like any marriage/union between heterosexual couples. And that is the only right and fair way to go about things. A well known comedian/comic actor had a very high profile civil union with his partner (all over the TV news), only for the union to be legally dissolved, about one year later. Anyway, that's how things are in the UK.

You know it's funny, but this is the argument I have used before on idiots who insist gays should not be married. I flat out said I believe everyone should be able to get married but everyone should have to deal with divorce. Won a few arguments as they had been through some nasties...but I'd really rather see it equal for everyone in all respects, including divorce.
