There is some risk of HIV transmission if you are given head by an HIV+ person and they have sores or cuts in their mouth. There is more risk of HIV transmission if you are sucking someone and you have sores or cuts in your mouth.
Don't brush teeth before BJs to avoid bleeding gums.
It's a question I wrestle with also about BJs (more so about sucking with or without a condom). To help me get through the condom conundrum, it helps me to pretend anyone I am fucking/being fucked by has HIV (therefore I always use a condom), and anyone I am giving oral sex to does not have HIV (therefore I never use a condom). I know this sounds fucked up, but it's a method I use to address the minimal dangers that are inherent in sucking dick and mild sense of panic I feel.

i guess i understand both sides from this point of view in both areas lol, stds are scary , don't reccomend not using a condom at all if not with a partner you KNOW is clean

but as far as sucking goes, half the fun of sucking is feeling the tounge against the skin, the lubrication of the spit, ect, and well, without that your just putting it in anotehr hole

They usually quote the risk of risk of transmission of HIV from an infected person via oral sex at 1 in 10,000. They state they think this number is still too high and have never seen any documented case of HIV transmission via oral sex.

It's always better to be safe than sorry, the risks are so minimal that it's probably wiser to worry about bacterial STI transmission instead.
